"I'm extremely pleased with all of the work that John Villa and his team did for me. We did an addition on our house that included a den, bathroom and BR/office. All together it was adding an additional 500 sq ft. John also did a custom cabinet/entertainment center for me as well as custom office cabinets and desk. All of turned out better than I could have hoped. John is great to work with and has a very good eye for design and helped me make some of the difficult decisions that come with this type of project. I found John to be very upfront and honest and there were no tricks or gotcha's in the process. As expected, I changed my mind on a few things and there were surprise challenges that came up, but John was extremely reasonable in negotiating these pieces. This type of project is super hard to get quotes on that are comparable. John was not the most expensive nor the cheapest but somewhere in the middle. The work is super high quality and I was told many times by the various folks inspecting for permits that whoever was doing the work, was doing a really good job. His attention to detail is awesome, and the team wouldn't quit until everything was perfect. Moreover, he was the most upfront and honest of any contractor I talked to about what was included in his quote, what was not, and where I should budget for additional things I would need to purchase. I found everyone on his team very respectful and courteous, which is a big thing in a project such as this. They show up on time, they are quiet, and they clean up and protect the rest of the house from the work they are doing. That's another big benefit of working with John, that he has his own crew that does most of the work. So he really controls most of the process. I also appreciated how diligent John was in having his team get tested for covid every week in this environment. I doubt that all contractors are on top of this in the same way. We were so happy with how everything turned out that we are using Villa's Construction to redo the kitchen now as well!"

"I hired this company for the recovery of my home after a house fire. Took over a year to work in my house and the work is still not done, amounting to thousands of dollars to me for completion by other contractors. They were paid, but the work was not done. I paid thousands for repairs and they were also overpaid by the insurance company. I was ignored when I noted items were not completed, this included not installing built-in lighting, cabinet installation was not completed, etc. They cost me thousands in insurance fees alone - and I told them about all this. UPDATE 6/12/24: I rated this company badly because they did not complete all that was needed. However, Noah came back and completed the tasks they were paid to do. It did take a while, but they did a good job to complete everything. I would recommend them."

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

Most Greek Revival architecture homes are one and a half to two stories, depending on the footprint, which sets them apart from some Federal architecture homes that are three stories. The gabled roof on the second floor can sometimes cut into the living space, especially on smaller homes of this style, which leaves a much smaller living area upstairs.

While you will always work with a team of professionals at some point during your home build, homeowners with experience can take on some part of the process. Manage the initial brainstorm, brief writeup, and floor layout phase with minimal assistance before contacting a general contractor. And while you can purchase stock blueprints for some home designs, it's always best to speak with professionals when choosing one ideal for your property.

Structural engineers draw structural plans, which include detailed drawings of the structural components of a home only. Complete house plans will require additional work from an architect or draftsperson, whose drawings will take the structural drawings into account. They’ll also include more details about the finishing materials and layout of a home, including everything from roofing and flooring materials to the position of furniture, light fixtures, switches, and plumbing fixtures.

Stone, marble, and brick are common building materials of Neoclassical architecture, though you will also find wood flooring and a range of natural stone tiles. Since several home styles fall under Neoclassical architects' umbrella, a range of building materials—including traditional wood framing—will make an appearance.

You don’t have to commit to a complete home renovation to age in place comfortably—those can get pricey. Instead, focus on a few impactful changes. Consider adding a stair lift or installing ramps to eliminate barriers. Upgrading to non-slip flooring can prevent falls while adding brighter lighting can improve visibility throughout your home. These thoughtful updates can make your home much easier to navigate and enhance your comfort and safety without the stress and cost of a complete overhaul.
