"Absolutely brilliant craftsmanship. Our fireplace is once again the centerpiece of our 1925 Bungalow. They did an outstanding job getting us up to code while maintaining the original look of the fireplace and chimney. I strongly recommend their services."

"Chris did all the measuring himself. Was excellent matching the granite patterns and hiding the seam on the one countertop. The fireplace was to have a seam in the travertine and he was able to cut and install in one piece....it is beautiful! We had three proposals and Chris was the middle priced..but, really glad we spent the extra money and choice him. He will be doing our bathrooms this fall! Great to work with!"

"Joe Harley started the process with timely response to request for quote.  His was 1 of 4 quotes I had solicited, all found on Angie's List and verified further on the BBB.  I considered him as tied with another firm as best choices, but his 15% lower price of the 2 won me over.
Very personable and professional response with written pricing estimates provided while onsite for this first visit.  Presented several options as requested and we had a good discussion on paint products (as I had with other bidders) before I made decision to go with Sherwin Williams paint.
First day consisted of  pressure washing only.  Only took a few hours to do the entire house including the fireplace chimney.  Joe also pressure washed our vinyl gables so that we could verify the condition of the siding.  We had expected them to be in good condition and did not require painting these gables done with vinyl siding.
Day two (full day) started with Joe plus crew of 3 arriving for scheduled 8:30am start.  While Joe indicated they probably would only get the prep work done that day.  They scrapped back soil/mulch around the base of the house.  They taped windows, lights, hardware, etc.  Scraped and removed bad caulk seals or other areas requiring attention.  Patched stucco cracks with an elastomeric compound and caulked wherever necessary.    Before the day was done they were able to apply the acrylic emulsion conditioner to most of stucco and primer to some new stucco repairs that had been performed previously.
Day three (full day) had them painting the entire house stucco, the wood beams on lanai and even the stucco mailbox across the street.  They completed all the detail work and cleanup.   Other than our home looked new again, you couldn't tell they had been there.
While Joe was not there the entire time, he was there to start each day and returned several times during the day to check on the progress and quality of the work.  He ended each day on the job and reviewed with me the status as well as what would happen the next day.  The 3 man/woman crew were very professional, performed quality work and did not need constant supervision.
Bottom line:  We are very satisfied with the fair price and quality work done by Harley Painting.  We will be using them again to paint our interior in a few months.

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Chimney crowns may be stone, concrete, or metal but most crowns are made of concrete. It’s not recommended to build chimney crowns with mortar (which is different from concrete) due to it’s weaker composition (especially when exposed to the outside elements). Most chimney crowns are custom made to fit your home’s specific chimney.

Bioethanol fireplaces are safe when users follow the instructions and maintain the fireplace. Ethanol is flammable, however, and should be kept away from flammable surfaces, children, and pets.

The primary disadvantage of a ventless fireplace is that it doesn’t have an exterior venting system. This means that the byproducts from combustion are emitted into your home, which raises some safety concerns. In addition, ventless gas fireplaces produce moisture as they burn—and if there’s no ventilation, you could end up with a mold problem.

A chimney without a liner is not recommended. Chimney liners protect the surrounding structure from heat, reducing the risk of fire or structural damage. Just as important, liners prevent carbon monoxide and other toxic gases from leaking into your abode by guiding smoke and gases out more effectively. Remember, installing a liner ensures safety and extends the life of your chimney.

Yes, in most cases, you can remove a fireplace while keeping the chimney. This process requires sealing the chimney at the bottom where it connected to the fireplace and capping it at the top. It is essential to consult a chimney professional or inspection specialist beforehand. They will need to determine if the chimney's structural integrity is sufficient to remain safely in place without the support of the fireplace.
