"Scheduling went well and they did everything they said they were going to do. They gave us an evaluation and report after the inspection. However, we have never used the fireplace so we are not sure if what they did was effective. But, they did not leave any mess behind and they were professional."

"Could not be happier. I received a quote the same day I called and later scheduled for the work to be done. On the day the work was to begin the workers arrived promptly, and were very respectful during there time there. They did the work needed in one day and cleaned up before they left. They even took the fireplace insert from the fireplace that I had previously demolished myself and loaded it in their dumpster for removal. They really went above and beyond to make me happy. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to others."

"John Keller and staff were professional, low-pressure, and easy-going. Their estimate beat all competitors by several thousand dollars. Quality of the work was outstanding - the roof looked much better than after the reroof I had done after the 2004 hurricanes.
Cleanup was outstanding, other than about a dozen nails scattered on the driveway after they pulled the dumpster trailer away.
During the first rain after the job was complete, I noticed water leaking in the fireplace area. I was sure it was due to poor flashing/sealing around the chimney. I called John and he promptly came over with a crew and checked it out. He determined it was due to a leaky chimney cap, and of course I was skeptical because this leak never occurred before. To help convince me and himself, he went out and bought a tarp and wrapped it over the chimney and said let's wait until the next rain. No leak will mean it's the cap, leak means it's the roofing job. Sure enough, the next rain brought no leak, so the roofing job was vindicated! He did not charge me anything for that trip. Outstanding experience all around!  Now to find a chimney repair company on Angie's list....

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

To ensure the safety and longevity of your pre-fabricated fireplace, perform regular maintenance. This includes regular cleaning, checking the unit for cracks, and ensuring the venting and ventilation systems are clear and functioning properly. Additionally, scheduling professional inspections helps ensure safe operation.

You can control the flame on a pellet stove by using a damper, often located on the back of the pellet stove. While the damper function varies by model, you can open the damper slightly to let in more air or close it slightly to provide less oxygen, with the ultimate goal of providing a steady flame.

Yes, it’s worth capping a chimney. Here are several reasons to install a chimney cap:

  • Keep out rain, snow, wildlife, and other debris

  • Help prevent chimney fires

  • Reduce your chimney’s exposure to moisture

  • Maintain your chimney flue liner

  • Help reduce energy bills by helping regulate your home’s temperature

While a hot fire can help heat up and loosen tar within your chimney, making it a recommended step before using a creosote log, it will not burn off significant existing buildup on its own. Attempting to remove built-up creosote with a hot fire is dangerous and can cause a chimney fire. For safe and effective removal of caked-on creosote, the best approach is to hire a professional chimney sweep.

This will depend on the size of the pellet stove and how much of the house you’re heating, i.e. just one room or the entire house. Many pellet stoves use anywhere from 80 to 345 watts of electricity per hour. In terms of the pellets, a 40-pound bag can cost $5 to $9. A bag of pellets will burn for about 24 hours.
