"DO NOT HIRE! Ryan took my $350 deposit and did not do any work. This company is a scam. I wish I checked the most recent reviews here to see he has scammed other people. I just checked and the status of Screen Squad, Inc has been dissolved with the state of Florida. He is now just using the name of his old company to scam people. I will be contacting authorities."

"Please be sure to do several searches on this company. I wish I had done that before I hired John Garcia, the owner of Suncoast Glass. He overcharged ($325 for less than 45 minutes of work) for attempting to repair a window that was leaking. I contacted him 3 weeks after the "fix" because the window was still leaking. At first he said he was out of town for several days. After waiting for him to arrive back home, I texted him several times about scheduling a day to come back out. After no response, I called him. I think he answered the phone by mistake, but he said he'd come out 3 days later, mid-day. Well that never happened. Now he won't answer my calls and I can't leave a voicemail because his mailbox is full. After doing more research, I found out other customers have had the same issue. Oh, and he does not accept credit cards, only cash and checks. Hmmm, wonder why? After first thinking he was very personable, I have come to realize that he's dishonest, lazy and incompetent."

Windows questions, answered by experts

To lower your home’s humidity level overnight, you can open your windows when the air is less damp. This tactic allows air to circulate around the window, preventing condensation from forming. However, you should consider the disadvantages of leaving your windows open overnight, including safety risks and pest intrusions.

Making a window in a basement larger costs an average of $4,200. You’ll need to pay an average of $550 to have a structural engineer plan the project, $500 to $1,500 for the installation labor, and an average of $2,200 for the excavation and window well installation. The remainder will go toward pulling permits, installing trim, and repairing drywall on the interior.

There are several ways to keep your existing windows from letting in noise. You can install sound-dampening curtains or other window treatments that help deaden noise vibrations. Make sure any gaps around the window are sealed with acoustic caulk. Installing acrylic or plexiglass on the inside of windows still allows you to take in the outdoor views while also stifling sounds from coming in and out.

If you try all of these steps and still have noise coming in, it might be time to install new windows.

Vinyl windows have a few cons to consider before installing. For instance, while vinyl windows are energy efficient in terms of maintaining your home’s temperature, the actual process of making vinyl windows involves chemicals that are harmful for the environment. Vinyl windows are also less customizable than some other types of windows.

When your double-hung window upper sash keeps falling down, it means you could be letting out warm air in the winter or cool air from the AC in the summer. That means your HVAC system works harder to warm or cool the house, costing you extra on electric bills.

If the lower sash continues to fall down, it means when you’ve popped open the window for fresh air, it could slam shut. In addition to being inconvenient, this could be dangerous if you have small kids, children, or pets that like to hang out by the window.
