"We recently moved into a 1979 home that had already received a "reface" in 2004. The kitchen had orange/brown laminate and we were eager to get it replaced. After interviewing a big box store salesperson and a locally owned refacing company we saw on TV commercials, we discovered that they only replaced the doors and drawer fronts. Not the drawer boxes or drawer slides, which ours were in terrible working condition, PLUS, the refacing cost would not be wood at our budget which was something important to us. The selection was limited, and we were not satisfied with what we would receive for the price quoted. Then, we discovered Kevin who is the owner of Custom Cabinet Refacing of Estero. He came to our home in Cape Coral on a Saturday and spent a lot of time learning about our renovation vision and provided useful design ideas that we did not know were possible. There were wood door and drawer style options within our budget along with color choices that made the other companies pale in comparison. Kevin not only replaces doors, hinges, drawer fronts, drawer boxes and drawer slides, he removes the frames around the existing cabinets and replaces with real wood. There is NO taking off old laminate trim and gluing on new laminate to match the doors/drawers. Kevin redesigned and altered a two-drawer layout to one large drawer, and he added a pull down "drawer" in front of the kitchen sink for sponge and scrubber storage. Also, we received new pots/pans pull out storage drawers, cabinet shelves, a built-in garbage/recycle pull out drawer and crown moulding where the cabinets meet the ceiling all for the same price the other companies quoted us for non-wood door and drawer fronts only. The only thing that is not new in our kitchen is the original backs and sides of the cabinets. Kevin is expert in his craft of cabinet making and has a great eye for design. He is a good listener and problem solver with a friendly and humble demeanor. We have friends who are "wowed" by the transformation and are looking forward to hiring him to work on their kitchen renovations. We highly, highly recommend Custom Cabinet Refacing of Estero and its owner Kevin!"

"Lester and his crew are great! We asked him to build closets in a new construction home (office, hall closet, two bath linen closets) and he did great work. Super sturdy and they look great! The quality is just as nice or even nicer than what you would get from Easy Closets and he installs them so you don't have to do the work! He cut baseboards and caulked up against the new closets - very professional. We're proceeding to have him build walk-in pantry shelving and 4 bedroom closets. He's a hidden gem in Naples and the price is VERY competitive. Support the local guys!"

"Danny and his team were honest prompt and worked for six continuous days in order to ensure the job was done with excellence and as promptly as possible. They removed the carpet from the bedrooms and installed the vinyl over the existing tile throughout the remainder of the house. They installed nearly 2500 sq ft of vinyl plank throughout the house and managed to do it without any transitions going into each room. Love it and definitely recommend them!"

Closets questions, answered by experts

The time it takes to build a closet varies widely depending on the project's size, complexity, and level of customization. On average, construction can take anywhere from a few days to two weeks.

A simple reach-in closet might be completed in less than a day, while a more complex walk-in closet could take one to two days or more. A typical project often falls in the 2-to-5-day range. However, a large, highly customized walk-in closet that requires structural changes, like moving a load-bearing wall, will take significantly longer.

A professional contractor can provide the most accurate time estimate for your specific project. If you are planning a DIY build, it is best to budget additional time.

You can modernize an old-looking closet by just painting it, but beyond that, consider electric elements like recessed or accent lighting. If this is a large and deep closet, you can consider adding an island to the middle or a nice ottoman on a rug. Luxury closets will have even more items, like felt-lined drawers for watches and jewelry, in-wall safes, electronic shoe storage, or a tablet catalog of their items.

Whether it’s less expensive to build or buy a closet depends on both the type of closet and whether or not you’d be constructing it yourself. The cost of custom closets built by a pro ranges from $1,300 to $3,800, but you may be able to DIY it for as little as $400. By contrast, prefabricated options go as low as $200 and up to $3,000, so it’s almost always less expensive to go this route.

Custom furniture can provide more efficient storage and maximize resources.

Bump-out additions can add some space to a closet without requiring any significant structural work. This entails pushing back the existing rear or side of the closet, simply moving the wall into either an adjacent room or unused space. For ground-floor closets, this could even be extended to the exterior of the home, but that has its own complications. Bump-outs are a good discussion to have with your contractor if you’re just looking to increase the space a little—not renovate the entire closet space.
