"I’m a businessman myself and I have to say how impressed I was in their professionalism. Prior to hiring them, I knew they were the right company to do business with. They asked all the right questions and educated me on the project. In looking back; the job was 100% perfect and completed on time. Very happy with their work"

"If there were six stars to choose from, that would be the rating I would give for the service provided. They were efficient, on time, and had a very professional and friendly personality, doing an amazing job repairing my ceiling. I will be using them for future handyman projects!"

"Could not have been more pleased with our dealings with Joey Shey and partner, Kevin Skrivner. Joey PROVIDED A DETAILED PLAN before accepting any deposit (unlike a competing, lower cost 'bid' that wanted 50% before providing his). Once initial deposit was received he ordered the parts which were assembled off-site. The shelves and hangar bars were therefore able to be installed in just a little over 2 hours by Joey and Kevin. Holes in the wall were spackled and primed for painting and the site was left spotlessly clean. The fellows arrived for BOTH appointments when they said they would and they kept us apprised by text or phone when each stage could commence. The price was competitive and we honestly felt that although The Closet Shop was somewhat higher than one other bid (of 3), the QUANTITY of shelving/space was greater, and, it turns out, NEEDED! Without a 'plan' from the closest competing bidder, there is of course no way to know for certain, however we'll never be sorry about having selected the Closet Shop for the above and additional reasons. Kevin's construction team Scribner Construction (see separate review) was able to expedite installation by at least 5 WEEKS!!! by laying tile in the closet, a necessary step prior to 'go-ahead' w/ the shelving. This, amid Covid S@H, was the best of many positive aspects of working with this professional TEAM. We can recommend their work w/o reservation. The 3 references they provided said the same. It was a professional and even pleasurable experience from beginning to end and we LOVE our new closet - WISH WE'D DONE THIS YEARS AGO. Hire THESE guys!!!"

"Amy Weaver is exceptional at her ability to take a client’s needs, ideas and design dreams and turn them into something better than I could ever have imagined. She is extremely patient and professional. Home Depot is lucky to have her on their team. She even sold us on another flooring project Home Depot quoted, that we weren’t entirely sold on, by explaining their proposal more thoroughly and suggesting solutions to our objections. Amy earned our respect and inspired several future projects with Home Depot. I only hope she will be recognized for going so far above and beyond. Thank you Amy!!"

Closets questions, answered by experts

You can turn an adjacent room into a walking closet by just rearranging the room. This means removing the furniture and adding racks and an island in the center if you have that in your budget. Houses with two bedrooms connected to each other are great options for large walk-in closets that don't require any structural changes or much building whatsoever.

A foyer or entryway is typically a formal landing area for guests, located at the primary entrance of a home. It is often more formally decorated and connects directly to the main living space. In contrast, a mudroom is a more casual, utilitarian room, usually leading in from a secondary entrance like a garage or the side or rear of the house. It serves as a space for residents to remove shoes and outerwear to keep mud, dirt, and water out of the main home.

You may need a building permit to add a closet, depending on the size and kind of work required to install it. The most likely scenario requiring a permit involves changing the structure of the house and performing electrical work for closet lighting. A permit can cost between $100 and $450. If you’re installing a smaller reach-in closet, a permit may not be required, but always check with your local municipality and consult a closet designer or builder.

Bump-out additions can add some space to a closet without requiring any significant structural work. This entails pushing back the existing rear or side of the closet, simply moving the wall into either an adjacent room or unused space. For ground-floor closets, this could even be extended to the exterior of the home, but that has its own complications. Bump-outs are a good discussion to have with your contractor if you’re just looking to increase the space a little—not renovate the entire closet space.

Plywood offers excellent stability and strength for drawer construction. Baltic birch plywood provides a premium appearance, while standard hardwood plywood offers good value. Solid wood works well but requires more attention to grain direction and seasonal movement.
