"We got rats in our attic, so insulation had to be removed, area sanitized, and insulation replaced. It was a three day job. Two different crews. One to remove and one to install. They showed up on time, very polite and professional and it appears to be a very good job. They took photos and showed us issues we needed to address."

"Summary: I would recommend them to anyone for their workmanship, overall service, and great pricing. Total Home Roofing was recommended to us by a friend. The first person we met was the salesperson, Joey, and he was great. He took the time to ensure that we were comfortable with their service and processes. Total Home doesn’t do roof repairs—they only do complete replacements and they are very upfront with their costs and procedures. A really great service they provide is a claims department that worked with our insurance company directly to get the most for our claim. They ended up getting us an additional $2,500 for some major underestimation by the insurance company’s initial damage assessment. That alone makes Total Home a bargin. Another key selling point for me was that they stipulated in the agreement that the site would be cleaned up at the end of each day, including a magnetic roller that picks up all (ok, most) of those pesky nails that come off the roof by the hundreds or thousands. Now, I have a bigger than normal roof and I knew it would be a big job, the salesperson knew it would be a big job, but whoever scheduled the work crew must have overlooked that point because they only sent a three-member crew. These guys had to work their tails off each day and never finished until after it was too dark to see. They picked up the biggest part of the trash but they never used the magnetic roller to get those nails. In fact, when I asked Jason, the project manager, about this he commented that they only did this at the end of the project and not every day—they are just too busy. (Back to this later.) The job started on a Monday and they finished on the following Friday, but they had to go to another job site on Wednesday so we did lose a day. The forecast for Monday was for rain during the overnight hours, but was I assured by Jason that the roof would be made watertight before they left just in case. Well, Monday night we got a significant amount of rain and Tuesday evening the ceiling in the bathroom right below the area that was being worked on collapsed from all the water that was funneled in from a section of the roof that, apparently, wasn't sealed up. I called Jason Wednesday morning to inform him of the damage and he came by to inspect it right away. I wasn't home when he first arrived so my wife showed him the damage. Standing there in the bathroom with soaking wet drywall hanging down and piled up on the floor he said something along the lines of "Well, we can't be sure that was caused by my crew. After all we didn’t get that much rain." When she told me this I was a bit incredulous to say the least. By the time I got home about 10 minutes later, Jason was on the roof inspecting the area over the bathroom and was on the phone with the office. I overheard a little bit of the conversation as I went to join him on the roof and it sounded a little bit like he was trying to cover for his crew, but finally (and grudgingly) agreeing that they were going to need to repair the ceiling. It turns out that the crew had not secured the waterproof underlayment to the roof Tuesday evening before they left. This allowed the rain to get inside and inundate the drywall in the ceiling and wall. While we were up there we found some additional damage that was caused by the crew when they were replacing the roofing material on the flat roof over the patio. Evidently, they had pulled back the trim around a couple of windows and broken not only the trim but some of the frame as well. I mean it was so obvious it shouldn’t have been debatable. Yet, when I pointed this out, Jason attempted to deflect and acted surprised that I was asking them to repair the damage. He finally admitted that they had broken the trim and that they would fix it, which they did. Total Home sent out a drywall repair guy on Thursday and by Saturday it was all fixed and looked find. So, back to the nails. On Thursday, the crew showed up to the house but complained that the electrical outlet they were using for a leaf blower wasn’t working. I checked the breakers and found all in order. I then suggested that we use another outlet around the side of the house. I went outside to show them where the outlet was and on my way back to the door I stepped on a nail. Now, I will admit that I shouldn’t have been out there barefooted, but I assumed (yes, I know what that means) that the yard had been mag-rolled and that I wouldn’t find any nails. But the large, pointy thing in my foot proved me wrong. By the way, it turned out that it was the leaf blower itself that wasn’t working. The crew then asked to borrow mine, which I was happy to do. Friday (1/27) the team wrapped up by noon and the roof looked great, but there was still a lot of debris left behind which I ended up collecting and disposing of myself. I called and asked Jason if the crew had used the magnetic roller to pick. He assured me that they had and that all was well. However, not all was well. The following Saturday (2/3) I encountered (read stepped on) another nail, right outside of my garage. Luckily, I had shoes on this time and it didn’t break the skin. I called Jason to inform him and he said he’d get someone out there “early next week” to roll the site “again”. I decided to hold onto the final payment check until they came and mag-rolled the entire yard. I ended up holding it until this past Monday (2/19) when my wife called the company directly and they sent someone out that day. They showed her the bag of nails they recovered- yes, that’s correct. A grocery bag’s worth of nails. Even after all of this I am pleased with the completed work and the appearance of the roof. I understand that large construction projects can (and will) go a little off track once in a while. I also understand that the company was extremely busy and that there might be one or two hiccups. That being said, there is more than a little bit of a disconnect between what the company promised and how it was delivered."

Drywall Insulation FAQs, answered by experts

Damp plaster does dry out, although the drying time depends on several factors, including the type of plaster, the surrounding temperature, moisture content, and the extent of the dampness. Sometimes, it can take weeks or months for wall plaster to dry naturally.

Costs range from $500 to $5,000, depending on damage size, labor, and finishing requirements.

You do not need to drywall over most types of garage insulation. However, doing so can increase noise reduction, make the space more attractive, and keep children and pets from touching harmful fiberglass insulation. If you’re using cellulose or some other type of blown-in insulation (fiberglass and mineral wool are common), you will need drywall to contain the insulation material.

Plaster can be a difficult DIY to master, especially if you plan to plaster an entire room, rather than patch a small area. Before you begin a plaster DIY project, you need to know which tools and type of plaster to use. It's also important to know how to prepare the surface and apply the plaster for a smooth finish. If that all sounds like a lot of work, you may prefer hiring a local plaster repair contractor to do the job.

Many homeowners choose to install tongue and groove over drywall. The great thing about this type of ceiling is that it hides imperfections. If your drywall is a little bit wonky or has some minor damage, the tongue and groove planks should cover it and give it an even appearance. Installation is simplest if you install battens over the existing framing before installing your tongue and groove planks.
