Small jobs welcome

"Ken was the nicest guy. It took him no time at all to get our keys working on our new houseâ s locks. Then he tackled the lock on my deceased fatherâ s Craftsman tool big box (whatever they are called). He caught that our back door lock was installed upside down and fixed it. He then offered to fix our rather sticky front door. I would highly recommend his servicess."

"Greg with Kelly?s Keys was amazing. So friendly, and I could tell he knew his stuff. He left his info so I could call him if I had any questions later. I would recommend him to anyone that needs his kind of assistance. Thank you Angie for bringing him to us. I will definitely call again if I need him."

"Absolutely, here's a review for a locksmith service that helped with a car lockout and key replacement: "I recently found myself locked out of my car, and I contacted this locksmith service . Their response time was impressive, and the locksmith who arrived was professional and courteous. They efficiently unlocked my car and made a new key on the spot. The pricing was fair considering the emergency service provided. Overall, I was highly satisfied with their service and would recommend them to anyone in need of a reliable locksmith for car emergencies.""

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Rekeying is typically cheaper than replacing locks. Professional rekeying costs between $40 and $160, sometimes with an additional fee of $15 to $40 per lock. A locksmith's hourly rate averages around $75. If you do it yourself, a rekeying kit can cost as little as $10. In contrast, replacing a lock costs between $130 and $500, with an average of around $315, depending on the hardware and lock type. Rekeying is a simpler process that changes the key for your existing lock without replacing the hardware. It is a good option if you have a quality lock that works well, you've recently moved, you've lost a key, or you need a quick security upgrade. The best choice depends on the condition of your current locks.

Rekeying your own locks is a low-cost task that prevents you from having to replace the locks themselves completely. The first couple of times you rekey a lock may be challenging because this is an intermediate DIY task. You can purchase a rekey kit from most hardware stores, but make sure you’re buying the kit from the brand of lock in your home that you’re going to rekey.

Typically, it can take around 15 minutes to rekey a lock. The time depends on the type of lock and how skilled you are at rekeying. The first time you rekey a lock, it may take a little longer. Once you get the hang of the process, it will move along much more quickly.

You can cut a door knob off using a sawzall, but you risk causing additional damage to the door itself. You’ll also need to completely replace the door knob, costing you extra money and another trip to the hardware store.

You might want to change a door lock entry code for a handful of reasons. The most common answers are extra security or a forgotten code. You may also find yourself in a position where you need to temporarily change the code to allow a guest to come and go freely but want to switch it back once things return to normal.
