"Had a smart keypad lock installed at my salon and couldn’t be happier with the service. Ofer was professional, knowledgeable, and made sure everything was set up properly before leaving. The new lock works perfectly and makes managing access so much easier. Highly recommend Bold City Lock & Key!"

"We’ve used this handyman multiple times and each experience has been excellent. He has helped us assemble a bunk bed, a vanity set, and mount our TVs, and every job was done with care and precision. He is reliable, fast, and does great work. It’s such a relief to have someone you can trust to get things done right the first time. Highly recommend. My"

"I’ve hired Alex many times - for jobs both at the business I work for and my house - and I can’t say enough good things about him. Alex is prompt, professional, affordable and always does an excellent job. He can do everything from mounting a TV, installing a ceiling fan to patching drywall. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable handyman."

"Walter and Glen at Protect Your Home Group with ADT are the best people to talk to in terms of security alarm. Being a locksmith myself I know how important it is to deal with the right people. I referred a lot of customers to them and so far they are happy with their service. I myself got one for my house. Thank you for a consistent service and great deal."

"Professional, friendly, and cleaned up construction mess before they finished. Taped down paper to protect wood floors while they worked. Communicated when they would be working on our project. Also, took time to explain project and helped us make decisions about window trim that would look best. The project results exceeded our expectations. Would highly recommend and will use this company again. Ronald takes pride in a job well done."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Most door knobs can be removed with a Phillips or flathead screwdriver. If you don’t have either of those available, a paper clip or small pin can sometimes work, but the extra effort may not be worth a quick trip to the hardware store.

If you don’t have your original key, the easiest way to obtain a copy is to call a locksmith. For house keys, your locksmith has several options for configuring a new key:

  • They can input a lock’s identification code into a database to obtain key-cutting instructions.

  • They could analyze the lock cylinder to determine how to cut a new key.

  • They can create an impression of the lock cylinder from which to cut a new key.

It is best to use a dry lubricant, such as a Teflon-based option, for door locks. Unlike popular oil-based lubricants, dry lubricants leave a non-stick, water-repellent coating that does not attract dust, dirt, and other debris. Using an oil-based lubricant can cause these particles to build up inside the lock, making it difficult to operate or even damaging the internal mechanism. You can find dry lubricants, some of which are made specifically for locks, at most hardware stores.

Rekeying your own locks is a low-cost task that prevents you from having to replace the locks themselves completely. The first couple of times you rekey a lock may be challenging because this is an intermediate DIY task. You can purchase a rekey kit from most hardware stores, but make sure you’re buying the kit from the brand of lock in your home that you’re going to rekey.

There are many types of deadbolts, but these tips work on most. First, address any grime buildup. A bit of WD-40 will loose up rust and dirt so the deadbolt can turn. Inspect the door and frame alignment if this doesn't resolve the issue. Adjust the strike plate or the deadbolt's position to improve alignment. If the problem persists, disassemble the lock to inspect for damaged or worn parts. If you are unsure how to do it, hire a local locksmith.
