"Excellent job by John Scott Roofing from start to finish. I signed a contract with John Scott on January 26, 2022 and by February 15th the work was completed. Mr. Scott gave me the most competitive bid and the roof looks amazing. Cleanup was thorough. A free wind mitigation inspection was included. I could not be more pleased."

"Had a very leaky roof. Contacted Eric because there was an expected storm a few days away! They got in, and got the job done, before the torrential rains came! Saved me a lot of money on inside repair work that would have been necessary. Would hire again in a minute!"

"We had our roof replaced by Roman Roofing. They did a great job and our rep James Andrews kept us updated every step of the way. They cleaned up afterwards and we love our new roof. I highly recommend them."

"Had my Shingle Roof damaged by Hurricane Ian and replaced it with a Standing Seam Metal Roof. Also, had my Gutters and Soffit replaced at the same time. Work was professionally done and the teams that worked on my project were a pleasure to work with. Great Job Kelly Roofing!!!"

"Jared Kurtz replaced our 20-year-old roof. We are extremely satisfied with the quality of his workmanship. He gave us a fair price, and we are so glad that he was honest and reliable. We could have lost our homeowners insurance if we did not install a new roof. We highly recommend him."

"We had two small areas where our tile roof was leaking, nothing major. We did a great deal of research and had several companies give opinions and quote. Roofing RX was extremely knowledgeable and took the time to explore all options. Their company focuses almost exclusively on tile roof repair. They did an OUTSTANDING job, we are EXTREMELY pleased with the work done. The price was very fair as well. In a world where so many companies are looking for a quick buck with inflated prices or claim you need a whole new roof, Roofing RX is a family business with the highest quality and ethics. HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommended!"

"Our new metal roof from East Coast Metal Roofing came out awesome! It was a very smooth process starting with a no pressure meeting with Product Specialist Dave Harrison who explained the product and process to us. He was very helpful in dealing with a few issues with our existing roof (gutters not installed correctly and old construction of area where roof lines met and leaked). He made sure the gutters were fixed properly and had the rooflines redesigned to eliminate any leaking issues. During the job the Quality Control Manager, Shaun LaForce, was on site each day and was great to deal with. The office managers, Jenna & Alexandria, were fantastic with keeping us up to date on the start dates and delivery info. The installation crew did a great job led by Alex and finished the job in 2 days despite a snowstorm in between the days, even shoveled my driveway the day after the storm! I highly recommend East Coast Metal Roofing if you're looking to upgrade your house with a metal roof. You won't be sorry!"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

The principal, common, and auxiliary rafters are the most frequently used types of rafters. Principal rafters are large and typically appear toward the edges of the roof. Common rafters are smaller than principal rafters. Some people may use a mix of common and principal rafters. The auxiliary rafter is not common, but it provides extra reinforcement for a principal rafter on a large building.

Venting a gas water heater out of the roof is preferable in most cases. Heated exhaust gases naturally rise, so a vertical vent pipe is efficient. If you’re trying to vent through a pipe exiting a wall, the angle of the pipe may be more horizontal than vertical, making the venting system less effective. If you go through a wall, you may need to add a fan to ensure a successful expulsion of the gases outdoors.

In most cases, installing solar panels will not void your roof warranty. To keep roof warranties intact, check your written warranty or call the manufacturer to ask about clauses regarding roof penetrations. You can also protect yourself by getting written approval or a modified warranty that specifically allows the solar installation type you’re planning. Then, hire a professional solar installer that follows roofing manufacturer instructions and protects the roof during installation.

The terms “roof shingles” and “roof tiles” are sometimes used interchangeably, but the term “shingles” most often refers to asphalt, rubber, metal, or slate shingles, and the term “tiles” normally means they’re made from clay or concrete. In all cases, shingles are small, rectangular components that a roofer layers in an overlapping pattern to protect the structure underneath from the elements.

The size of the dumpster will determine how many squares of shingles can fit in a dumpster. You can place between 4 to 20 squares of shingles in most standard containers.
