"Ok john Scott roofing was awesome n professional from start to finish. Any other roof estimates I got I had to scan a code or ask multiple times for license, insurance, references ect. not with John Scott roofing didn’t get the words out and Mr Scott is handing me copies of everything. The workers were neat personable they cleaned their messes up each day. If I could do more than recommend them I would do that n give a 6th star. Without asking at payment time I got copies of release of lien for material and entire job, that just puts ya at ease. John Scott roofing not only was the most reasonable but an absolute pleasure to work with thank you agin roof looks great !!"

"We had our roof replaced by Roman Roofing. They did a great job and our rep James Andrews kept us updated every step of the way. They cleaned up afterwards and we love our new roof. I highly recommend them."

"They were on time, polite and easy to work with. They readily answered any questions we had and did a thorough job of cleaning our roof, gutter fascia and soffits, sidewalk, and driveway. They finished with sanding and applying two coats of driveway sealer. We would hire them again!"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Roofing jobs can be expensive due to the required materials and the dangerous nature of the labor. The cost to repair a roof ranges from $390 to $1,920, with an average cost of $1,150, depending on what kind of roof you have and any accessibility concerns. Replacing a roof is much more expensive at $5,890 to $12,800.

Metal roofs have a reputation for being noisy, but with proper installation and adequate insulation, they are not significantly noisier than shingle roofs. The type of metal used can affect the sound level; for instance, steel roofs are typically noisier than slate or asphalt tiles but quieter than aluminum. While some people find the sound of rain on a metal roof pleasant, you can take steps to reduce the noise. Installing a thicker underlayment, adding insulation between the roof and the house, or using acoustic tiles can effectively muffle the sound. The gauge (thickness) of the metal roofing can also contribute to sound dampening.

Yes, you have to get on the roof to cut a hole for solar tubing. It's not possible to complete the job from inside your house by simply cutting through the ceiling. So if you want to go the DIY route, remember to use safe ladder practices. If you’re not comfortable climbing on your roof to install solar tubes, hire a pro who has the tools and expertise to do the job safely.

Roof underlayment usually lasts as long as the roofing material that covers it, as it’s not directly exposed to the elements. In most cases, roofing companies will replace the underlayment each time they install a new roof. In some cases, particularly with slate, clay, or certain metal roofs that can last 50 to 100 years, your underlayment may require replacement within that timeframe, especially if you start to notice roof leaks.

Roofing estimates vary for many reasons, but the most significant ones include differences in the cost of labor based on the contractor’s experience and overhead costs, as well as the quality of the materials your roofer will use for the job. You should get your estimates itemized and make sure your contractors include details about the materials they plan on using. Doing so allows you to compare not only based on the cost but also the value that you’ll get for your money.
