"McKinney Electric Service was hired to replace all our sockets and switches, replace every lighting fixture and ceiling fans, and troubleshoot/fix a broken switch. They were professional, friendly, communicated well, and stayed on schedule. They did a great job and their pricing was fair. We would definitely recommend them."

"Ed Riley is extremely knowledgeable about what causes lighting and how to protect from it. He explained to me which and how structures develop static electricity that lead to lighting discharges in a way that the physics made sense to me. They were also reasonably priced and kept their word. Definitely recommend them."

Customers say: True professional

"Highly recommend and would call again. Communication with JR was very good. Performed thorough inspection of refrigerator and determined that the water was not from the refrigerator. Only charge was the service call which I felt was reasonable and said if the plumber determined it wasn’t a water line leak they would return without an additional service charge. JR was correct that it was a water line leak."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Although homeowners can turn off a breaker, it’s vital to follow safety precautions when doing so to prevent serious and potentially fatal injuries. For instance, you want to ensure there is no water on the floor when you touch the breaker and wear protective gear such as safety glasses. Anytime you deal with anything electrical, it’s always best to be as safe as possible.

The main reason outlets become loose is because the contact points have started to wear down after years of use. Occasionally, poor wiring can cause heat or sparks that can damage the outlet and cause it to become loose. Either way, if your plugs slide out after being inserted into the outlet, it’s time to replace it.

Yes, it’s possible to use a three-way switch as a two-way switch. You can use a three-way switch as a two-way switch by bypassing one of the traveler wires and using only one of the available traveler switch terminals.

Light switches can last for decades when installed and maintained correctly. Improper wiring, heavy wear and tear, or too much wattage draw can cause light switch failure long before the expected end of a light switch’s life. Light switches that are hot to the touch, making a buzzing noise, or failing to work consistently should be inspected to find and repair the underlying cause.

Yes, tamper-resistant outlets are designed to be safe for use in homes with children. They feature a spring-loaded shutter that blocks the electrical slots when not in use, which helps protect children from electric shock if they try to insert an object. While they are the safest option available and highly effective, it's important to note that few things are truly 'childproof.' Children may still try to imitate adults by inserting a plug. For this reason, it's best to use tamper-resistant outlets over less effective solutions like plastic covers, which can be removed or pose a choking hazard. Always supervise young children around any electrical outlets or devices.
