"My wife and I just bought a house in Pinellas County, near our daughter and family, but we were still living on the East coast of Florida. We came in to coordinate projects related to plumbing, electrical and carpentry. I had three companies/contractors for each category scheduled to come in and review the projects and give me quotes. Trying to schedule 9 contractors is like trying to herd cats, but it got done, even though there were some time variations on when they came out that day, all but a few showed up. I always like to meet and get multiple bids on any projects I have for my home. The inspection report for the home showed several pluming issues. Of the three plumbers who came out. Only Paul Laezza from Phillip Maurici, “The Clean Plumbers” came back with a quote without additional prompting. Again, his bid was not the cheapest, but his demeanor and demonstration of his skills won me over. His company sent out a plumber who did exactly what they said they would. I was on the East coast at the time, and we communicated via text and voice. He sent me pictures of his work and all my plumbing is working beautifully. I found Paul to be very professional, pleasant to talk with and an expert in his field. The company “the Clean Plumbers” had some issues with phone support over the weekend (they share an off-hour phone service), but eventually that was resolved. I will use Paul again for any future plumbing needs."

"Sometimes you find excellence in service with companies.I have had AC systems serviced and replaced and plumbing repairs and replacements from Red Cap. The AC techs and plumbers have experience and work until the job is completed. At the end of service they give a detailed explanation and show you the issues before and after. They are customer service oriented in all communication, and a pleasant team of people. They respond quickly. We have used them multiple times and will continue to use Red Cap for our service needs. "I live in Apollo Beach and had a sprinkler pump that had stopped working. I called the people that installed the pump. It was about 5 years old. They told me that I needed a new pump and that the pump I had was not the correct one (even though their company installed it). That a new 40' line from the well to the pump was needed. They quoted me $3500. I knew better. I called Bay Area Pump and Well Service right here in Apollo Beach. Wesley Carter and his son came out right on time. They diagnosed the problem as a bad check valve at the well connection and replaced it. They also cleaned out my jet pump and redid the input plumbing into the pump. Installed a ball valve. He explained to me why and how the pump malfunctioned and what he did. They were respectful, courteous and professional. Their charge for parts and service was $200 that included a service charge. They saved me a lot of money. They will be recommended to my family and friends if they need this service. They are honest and reliable."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

It is possible for a slab leak to cause a sinkhole, but it would have to be a particularly serious leak. A slab leak causes the land under your home to erode and if there is enough movement depressions will form in the ground, potentially causing a sinkhole.

Most homeowners and many renters insurance policies cover the cost of damage from a burst pipe, as it is typically considered a sudden and accidental event. This coverage often includes not only the plumbing repair itself but also the cost to repair or replace other parts of your home damaged by the water, such as drywall and flooring. However, every policy is different, so it is wise to consult your insurance company to understand the specifics of your coverage and any potential out-of-pocket costs.

Yes, most bathrooms can be converted into a wet room, but the process often involves extensive renovations. Key requirements include having proper plumbing and the ability to slope the floor slightly for drainage. The conversion process typically requires removing the existing floors to install drainage, replacing drywall with waterproofed cement backer board, waterproofing the walls, and installing new fixtures to create an open, curbless shower space. A skilled home renovation professional can evaluate your bathroom to determine if it's a suitable candidate. It's also worth considering resale value; if you only have one bathroom, converting it to a wet room might not be ideal as many homebuyers prefer to have at least one bathtub.

You definitely can over-tighten toilet tank bolts. Unlike some other materials, porcelain can’t bend or flex, so when you over-tighten a screw into it, it could break against the added pressure. Only tighten them as much as needed to keep them in place and firm; any more and you could risk breaking the porcelain.

No, vinegar won't hurt PVC pipes. While vinegar is acidic, it’s not caustic enough to damage PVC. Pouring baking soda and vinegar down your drains is a great DIY solution for clearing minor clogs. If the problem isn’t resolved with vinegar and baking soda, it’s likely time to call in a pro. Avoid using more caustic solutions like drain cleaners, as these will damage PVC pipes, especially if there’s a clog.
