"Chris and the Trimen Landscape crew did a great job! They releveled my yard, got rid of the remains of a big stump, installed irrigation and sod. The work went very quickly and everyone was very professional and detailed. This is my second time hiring them and would highly recommend them!"

Small jobs welcome

"Generally, Green Iguana did a good job of cleaning up leaves from my yard. They also took the raked leaves with them so I didn’t have to stack bags in my driveway. If I had one area where they could have improved it was that they some leaves scattered near the landscaped areas (not in the landscaped areas, as they had to leave some or they would have had to also take up the mulch). I may be a little particular, but when I pay to have my leaves removed, I expect them all to be gone. Outside of that one comment, Green Iguana did a decent job, arrived on time and didn’t leave a mess for me to clean up."

"I had the pleasure of hiring California Palms Landscaping for a large project at my home. Steven Miro and his team were fantastic. They installed a sprinkler system, plants and sod for my front and back yards. They were efficient, cost-effective and the utmost professionals. I was so pleased with the results I hired them again to install my patio. It looks awesome! I will be using California Palms Landscaping for all of my outdoor needs. I highly recommend you try them."

"They installed artificial turf in our back yard. My concern was that the seams would be visible. Instead, it looks incredible and more natural than I could have imagined. Our dogs and child love it and there are no more holes of dirt in the yard for us to trip over. Easy to clean up after everyone and leaves blow right off too. They were incredibly friendly, responsive and professional. I would hire them again in a heartbeat."

"Updated review after 10 months of lawn service. All Seasons Lawns did a fantastic job for a reasonable price, mowing and maintaining a large yard. Our choice for a project to replace the sod in the front yard and updating the garden. They were always on time and professional, with reasonable pricing. I would hire them again without hesitation."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

It depends. Smaller, younger trees take longer to mature, but they're more resilient, their roots don't get as damaged during transplanting, and they recover faster. Plus, they're much more affordable to plant, and it's possible to DIY the planting.

On the other hand, mature trees produce fruit faster and provide more shade and privacy immediately. Ideally, a small or medium tree is the better choice if you can wait a few years for it to mature. But if you need immediate maturity, a larger tree is the only option.

There are two main times of year to apply mulch: mid to late spring and late fall. Spreading mulch in mid to late spring helps protect new seedlings as the soil warms up. It's best to wait until temperatures are steady, as mulching too early in the spring can slow down the soil's warming process and hinder plant growth. Fall mulching is also beneficial, as it insulates the soil and helps regulate its temperature when the first frosts arrive.

Xeriscaping can be more affordable than traditional landscaping, but it depends on your landscape design. However, you will save on water. If you live in an arid climate or a location prone to droughts, xeriscaping is an especially efficient way of reducing your lawn’s water demand without detracting from the beauty of your yard.

If you choose to leave gaps between your pavers, you can grow some ground cover plants between them for an organic feel. Look for plants such as creeping thyme, dymondia, jewel mint of Corsica, or clover.

Yes, you can landscape in the rain, but you should take some precautions to keep yourself and your tools safe. Avoid using electric landscaping tools during rainfall, and don’t mow, thatch, aerate, or rake in the rain, as your tools can more easily tear out roots in the loose soil. Be careful when working on wet grass, and take your time to avoid slipping. Avoid putting in new plants before a particularly bad storm, as heavy rain and strong winds can damage or uproot plants that aren’t yet established.
