"I worked directly with Jasmine. Jasmine was great to work with, very professional and relatable. She was understanding about the sudden changes in color and material I had during multiple consultations. She offered me a vast knowledge of materials and details about the work I hadn’t thought of or didn’t know about. If I have another project in the future I won’t hesitate to reach out to Sentri Homes."

"Called Gulfstream and the estimator came out within a few days. I wanted to have accordion shutters installed and to add a screen enclosure and storm door to the front entryway. The estimator made diagrams and gave me a price which was below what I had been told it would cost. After getting HOA approval, I called back to get the job going. The estimator came back, we confirmed the proposal, including a custom screen door, and I made the deposit. Permitting took about three weeks. Once the permit was issued a technician came out and took exact measurements. Manufacturing the panels and door took about three weeks. Installation crew arrived on time and were meticulous with their work including taking care not to trample shrubs and plants. They communicated throughout the process and cleaned up afterwards including hauling away my old storm door. From start to finish everyone I dealt with at Gulfstream were professional and courteous. I now have a beautiful enclosed front entry and shutters on all windows, including the triple sliding glass doors on the patio.

"This most recent project is our second review for AJP Construction.  We've been using Carl for almost every project at our Florida Keys second home since we purchased it in 2002. In the past year, Carl flawlessly undertook and managed the total renovation of our home including demolition of walls and floors, relocating plumbing and electrical, redesigning and installing new bathrooms and kitchen, new floors throughout the house, and finish carpentry as well as a multitude of other details.
For this most recent project wherein we the homeowners ordered double exterior doors mistakenly larger than the original doors, Carl devised a solution by expanding the concrete floor by 18 inches to accommodate the wider doors.  Carl re-framed the under the stairs storage area with pressure treated wood and Hardy-board paneling  that will last as long as the rest of the house.
In the main house, Carl's installation of paneling and floor tiles to an unfinished storage room transformed the area from a junk room to a living space.
Carl  a joy to work with both personally and professionally.   His friendly and professional demeanor is matched by his patience when dealing with a bickering couple such as myself and my wife.  We've been extremely pleased with Carl Geren's work since 2002 and will continue to use his superior services as the need may arise.  You can't go wrong when you hire Carl!

"JC Drywall did an amazing job for us. No project ever goes perfectly, you change your mind, have to make certain adjustments, things take longer than anticipated, etc. Juan and his crew were always professional, showed up in time every day, stayed late when they had to to get the job done. This was not an easy design with new wall framing, existing wall knockouts, interior view windows, and smooth texture finish. The results exceeded our expectations. Best of all he stood by the quality of their work. Highly recommend them for your renovation projects, you won’t be disappointed."

Storm Shelters questions, answered by experts

Technically, there isn't a difference between safe rooms and storm shelters. Both are designed to protect you from storms and extreme weather events. People often use “safe room” when discussing a shelter inside a building and storm shelter when talking about a detached unit.

Additionally, a safe room is understood to have more functions than a storm shelter. You may seek shelter in a safe room when you believe an intruder is in the home or when under another type of threat.

There's no simple answer to which is less costly: wood or metal-framed homes. In most cases, metal building components cost more than wooden ones, while entire metal buildings cost less than wooden versions. However, regardless of the exterior framing or structure, each must meet similar building codes. This means that the costs are about the same, even considering that wood will require more maintenance than metal over time.

Yes, you can finance new construction, though the process often requires a different type of loan than one for an existing property. There are several financing options available:

  • Construction-to-Permanent Loan: This is a common option where a single loan covers the building costs and then converts into a traditional mortgage once construction is complete and you move in.

  • Construction Loan (Stand-Alone): This type of loan provides funding only for the duration of the construction project. Once the house is built, you will need to pay the loan in full, typically by securing a separate, standard mortgage.

  • Builder Financing: Some custom homebuilders offer their own financing options, which may only require a down payment to begin the building process.

  • Bridge Loan: This can be a useful short-term loan to fund your new construction while you are in the process of selling your old home.

  • Home Equity Options: If you are building a second home, you might be able to use a home equity line of credit (HELOC) or a cash-out refinance on your current property.

It's also important to be aware that some lenders may have restrictions on financing for DIY house builds, so be sure to verify that you can secure financing before starting your project.

Ranch and colonial-style homes are often the most affordable to build. They have a common layout with available designs that are easy to adjust in simple ways without having to spend too much on a structural engineer or architect. Both types of homes' symmetry, simple roofs, and often one or two-story plans mean they often fall in the $150 to $200 square-foot range, putting them right around average.

How long it takes to build a log cabin depends on a variety of factors, including its size and design, and whether or not you have to clear the land. Construction can take a few weeks for a prefab log cabin on an established site, but up to eight or nine months for a custom cabin on undeveloped land. In comparison, the timeline to build a house is typically four to 12 months.
