Customers say: Quick response

"Just my whole house. We had to get rid of all the carpet, due to health issues. They put wood-plank and tile throughout the house. They also installed a shower. Extremely good. He is a true artist, and it was neat the way they worked. Really, really good at what they did. He was referred to me by a neighbor. Already recommended him to another neighbor - our street has kept him really busy!"

"This is about the 4th time we've used Carl to work in our home. He can do anything. He built an outside deck, removed all the wood from our kitchen & rebuilt electrical fixtures including installing ceiling lights. He picked up all the necessary materials was prompt, courteous, honest , professional & a pleasure to work with. Everything he did was excellent. We will always use Carl when we need work a in our home.

Small jobs welcome

"Zack installed two interior wood doors with trim work for me last fall. Great job. I recently called him again to remove the interior old wooden walls to the studs in my garage and install new pre-primed pine siding throughout. He also installed a new Man door, pegboard for tools, a Shop light and trim. He does terrific work, on time, stays on budget, good communicator and is a great person."

"I contacted Jerry for an emergency carpet removal due to flooding, with resultant black mold, and he came the next day and uninstalled the carpet in 3 bedrooms and also treated/removed the black mold so it wouldn't spread. He installed LVP flooring, absolutely outstanding, as well as fixed a severely urgent foundational issue, sealed persistently leaking French doors, removed and replaced compromised drywall, removed and replaced several cracked floor tiles (versus tearing and replacing all the tiles in the entire living room and kitchen!), did some electrical work and rewiring, removed and redid a bathroom vanity and backsplash, sanded and repainted the walls in 3 bedrooms, as well as countless other jobs that arose. He and Josh really went above and beyond, and the finished result (whole house!) was absolutely amazing! Jerry has years of experience and accomplished skill in literally everything that could and does go wrong, or need repair, or need upgrade inside and outside a home! He's also very warm and reassuring with stressed out homeowners. I highly recommend Jerry of Home Mechanix, LLC, if you want the job done right the first time, at the right price, with an outstanding outcome!"

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

The rule tells you how to cut tile to install it in a corner. The 3/4/5 rule recommends that you should have 3 feet across on one straight line, four feet on the other perpendicular line, and 5 feet of length from the end of one of the lines to the other. You’re making a right triangle with the tile, and the hypotenuse (the line across from where the 3-foot lie and 4-foot line meet) should be 5 feet long.

There are several low-maintenance shower floor tiles to consider for your bathroom. Stone tiles are easy to keep clean and only need an occasional resealing to keep them looking their best. Porcelain is another low-maintenance choice, as it doesn’t stain easily. Vinyl is also suitable for easy upkeep. On the other hand, one of the highest maintenance options for bathrooms is wood tile.

On average, tiling a shower costs between $1,800 and $5,000, with most people paying around $2,700. The price of this project depends on multiple factors, including the kind of tile you choose, the size of your shower, and labor rates in your area. If you decide to tile your own shower (instead of hiring a professional), it’ll likely cost $800 to $1,400.

Yes, cracked tiles allow water to seep through the substrate or subfloor, leading to mold and mildew growth. It can also cause severe structural damage. At the very least, water damage can cause your tile to lift from the substrate, meaning one cracked tile can lead to several cracked tiles. It’s a good idea to waterproof tile in areas with direct water exposure or lots of moisture.

While tile is the best option in the bathtub, don’t forget to consider the flooring around the wash station. Moisture-holding carpet is a no-no, but is tile or vinyl better for dogs? Tile flooring is tough, moisture-resistant, cool, and scratch-proof. However, it’s more tricky to install and costs more than vinyl flooring. If you opt for vinyl, select tough luxury vinyl flooring; otherwise, canine claws could quickly damage the surface of standard, budget vinyl.
