"Shaun was not only very professional, he was also extremely personable and down to earth. He mentioned that the tubs he had refinished for me were in the top 3 worst conditions heâ s seen. He initially priced the job for a few layers of stripping, but these tubs were original (1929) and had way more issues with them than anticipated. Regardless, Shaun made sure to stick to his price and do the best job he was capable of. Iâ m not lying when I say these tubs now look brand new. You would never guess that they were almost 100 years old! He was clean, always on time, communicated effectively, and most importantly did a phenomenal job. Thank you Shaun. Iâ ll definitely be hiring you in the future for any of the refinishing services you offer."

Customers say: Quick response

"After purchasing a 1960s dated house in a new town, our family elected to do a full first-floor remodel, which included updating two and half bathrooms, complete kitchen renovation and opening up the existing floor plan, as well as a master suite addition. We evaluated several floor plans and contractors over a six-month period, and ultimately chose Hammer Construction Services. Our family lived in the finished basement during the project, and my husband worked from home, so it was imperative that we chose a dependable partner that worked with trusted subs and would get us back above ground in a timely fashion. Humberto was our main contact upfront. He was professional and thorough, and worked closely with us to determine the best plan to meet our living needs (family of four), and to keep us within a set budget. He was extremely responsive during initial planning when we had a lot of questions and made several in-person visits and calls. The one area of the project that drove some frustration was budgeting for the design elements. Hammer Construction is very detail oriented and did work to make sure all project elements were accounted for upfront, but we learned that, as the client, it's important to have a good understanding of what materials you are interested in and quantities you will need versus approving a lump sum for 'bathroom tile,' as an example. Communication is key and they knows that, too. We received a weekly update email on what work was completed and what to expect for the week to come, which we found to be very helpful. During the project the site supervisor appointed to our job was also stellar. He and the team treated our project as if it were their own home project, and managed the workers flawlessly. Our site supervisor was at our home regularly, ensuring that the work was being completed to our standards and his-and if not, he would call workers back to correct. If there were issues on the back-end we were unaware most of the time. The workers on our project were also great, hardworking and very talented. The tile in the kitchen and bathrooms turned out amazing, the plumber and electrician were top notch, the hardwood flooring, comprised of existing and some new hardwood, made the house shine, and the fresh paint and trim looks amazing. I could go on. :) Such great workmanship and pride. The team completed our project in under four months and every week we could see the progress. We have now been living in our home for a little over a month and love it. The master bathroom feels like an escape, the refinished hardwood floors are gorgeous and the kitchen inspires the non-cooker in me to want to cook. We love our new home. It's stunning."

Bathtub Restoration questions, answered by experts

There are a few signs, both obvious and not so obvious, that it's time to refinish your bathtub. While some of these signs aren't an urgent problem, others could lead to significant damage if left untreated. Signs you should look out for include:

  • Rust stains, which signal the tub's enamel or surface sealer is deteriorating

  • Small chips, which can grow into larger chunks and can lead to rusting

  • Discoloration, which doesn't lead to a more significant problem but can be unsightly

  • Dirty surfaces, which means that the tub glaze is breaking down and allowing dirt to seep below the coating

The process involves cleaning the surface, applying bonding agents or new veneers, and finishing with a protective top coat or polish.

Resurfacing a tub is worth it if there are just a few dings, scratches, or chips. Expect to pay about $330 to $630 to refinish a tub. You can restore your tub to looking brand new for less money than replacing the tub. But you're better off replacing old bathtubs with heavy damage, mold, or other major issues.

There are a few ways to check whether your tub is fiberglass or acrylic. If your tub is a color other than white, then your tub is likely acrylic (as fiberglass tubs are usually white). Check to see if there is discoloration on the bottom of the tub, because if it’s yellowed, then you can be fairly sure it’s fiberglass.

Also, fiberglass tubs have thinner edges and are cool to the touch. Acrylic, on the other hand, is either room temperature or warm to the touch.

When it comes to cleaning bathrooms, bleach usually comes to mind. But like ammonia, bleach can damage acrylic tubs. In fact, many tub manufacturers warn against using bleach on acrylic bathtubs, and doing so could void the warranty on your tub. Again, a gentler cleaner specifically made for acrylic tubs, or one of the homemade methods listed above, is your better bet here.
