"I couldn’t be happier with the exceptional service I received from Dwight Edwards and his company, Essential Powers LLC.! Dwight assembled and installed (9) ceiling fans in my home flawlessly, and each one looks and functions perfectly. Dwight’s attention to detail really stood out—everything was aligned, balanced, and neatly completed. On top of that, Dwight moved (5) outlets up the wall to accommodate TVs, creating a clean and professional look that really enhanced the space. Dwight is incredibly knowledgeable, efficient, and showed great craftsmanship in every step of the job. What impressed me most was his professionalism—always punctual, respectful of my home, and willing to take the time to answer all of my questions. Dwight even cleaned up thoroughly after finishing, leaving no mess behind. I highly recommend Dwight and his company, Essential Powers, LLC. to anyone looking for top-notch electrical work. His dedication to quality and customer satisfaction is truly unmatched!"

"Ben installed 2 "fandeliers" in the bedrooms. He was on time and very professional. He took old fans to dispose of them. Very knowledgeable, answered all our questions. Friendly, personable and was able to do the job immediately. Will be hiring him again for our next project."

"Outstanding. I noticed the other day that my front porch light had dropped out of the recessed receptacle and was hanging by its wires. I quickly contacted several electricians from Angie's list and only heard back from two of them. Both were pleasant and helpful. One could not get to me for about 7-9 days. The other (Phaze Electric) had me on their schedule the next day. Jerome showed up early and quickly assessed what was needed. He obtained the necessary part from Lowe's and was back in a flash to remove the old housing and install the new one. I also used Phaze Electric a couple of years ago to hang ceiling fans on my back porch and they did an excellent job then, too. Phaze Electric will be the company I call in the future for all my electrical needs. I trust them to do a great job at a reasonable price."

"Went great. The electrician showed up right on time, reviewed the work and got it done. Fan looks really good. Electrician gave good advice on both a cable matter and whole home surge protection and I am having them come back to install that. (Power surge killed my original rung doorbell it’s last sad picture was of a stormy sky)"

"I got 5 estimates, and settled on Westbrook. The crew was very professional, wearing company shirts with their names on them. They did a very good job being mindful of code requirements. I needed to have the drainpipe relocated. My salesman (also a manager) came over and did it! Very impressive. The installation crew missed putting a needed bracket on the air handler and also mis-wired the thermostat which caused the unit to blow a fuse whenever the heater was turned on. They sent someone out to fix it the next day and he also went the extra mile while he was here to make sure any air leakage on the air handler was minimal. The Trane Hyperion air handler is supposed to be tightly sealed, but it's not, and air leaks around the cracks. I had selected this model myself prior to getting an estimate, so this wasn't Westbrook's fault, it is Trane's fault for faulty engineering. THE ONLY PLACE WHERE WESTBROOK DROPPED THE BALL, was that they didn't bring a filter for the air handler at the time of the install! Then they came the next day (a Friday) with one, and it was the wrong size. They didn't return again until Monday with the proper sized one, and by that time, I had established what size the air handler took and went out and bought one myself because my ceiling by the air duct that is closest to the unit was getting black with dust. I've had some bad luck with contractors lately, and them forgetting the filter was a small thing comparatively. Westbrook's customer service was outstanding. They really made me feel like I was their most important customer! I appreciate that!"

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

The square footage of your room will dictate the correct ceiling fan blade size. For example:

  • Rooms smaller than 75 square feet require a fan that is 29 to 36 inches.

  • Rooms up to 175 square feet require 42- to 48-inch fans.

  • Rooms up to 350 square feet require 52- to 56-inch fans.

  • Expansive spaces over 350 square feet need a fan larger than 60 inches.

There’s no reason why you can’t install a ceiling fan anywhere in your home, such as in living rooms, offices, bedrooms, and dining areas. Most bathrooms already have ventilation and don’t need a ceiling fan. For safety purposes, avoid installing a ceiling fan where the blades will be less than eight feet from the floor, near bunk beds, or anywhere else they may hit nearby objects.

Since the cost of installing a ceiling fan is $250 for most homeowners, it might be beneficial to replace your existing fan if you are experiencing a significant repair issue, like a broken motor. However, for less expensive repairs, like a fan blade replacement, you’ll likely spend less on the repair than a complete fan replacement. Of course, if you’re looking for an upgrade or a new style fan, replacing it altogether is always an option.

To determine if your ceiling box can support a fan, you must check if it is specifically fan-rated. Manufacturers are required to indicate this on the box itself. You may need to remove the existing light fixture to look inside the ceiling box for an inscription stating it is rated for fan use. If you do not see this confirmation, the box is likely not strong enough and must be replaced with a fan-rated junction box. For a proper and safe installation, you should also use a fan brace to secure the new box between the ceiling joists, which provides the necessary support for the fan's weight and motion.

Ceiling fans can be a great way to cool your home without the expensive utility bill of running an air conditioner. Plus, ceiling fans can sometimes run in both directions, pushing hot air down in winter and pulling cold air up in summer. With that said, air conditioning might be the only thing that helps if you live in a very warm climate.
