"This is our second time using One of a Kind Carpenter. They are great to work with from start to finish (calling to book an estimate all the way to completion of project). For this project, we had our exterior crawl space openings all redone as well as remodeling our laundry area in our house. Our home is almost 100 years old, and Chad made sure that all of the changes looked as if they belonged in the house. He made sure to match the custom crown molding in the house, and even went as far as custom creating jeweled doorknobs to match the other jeweled doorknobs in th home. The team was very professional, always on time, and, most importantly, did exactly what we wanted (and more). We will be using their services again!"

"The Potter company patched two large holes in my roof after I removed the old chimneys. They were quick, clean, fairly priced, communicated promptly, and were on time. The quality was amazing. They matched the shingles perfectly. You cannot tell it was patched from the outside. I insulated in the attic over the next week. Their patch was masterfully done so that my job insulating wasn't unnecessarily complicated. Finally, while working on the roof, they utilize safety gear. This is a good indication that they are a professional company and they take their safety seriously. I look forward to working with them again."
We designed and created this beautiful rendering (3d design) that it always helped our clients to have a idea of the final results.

"Our central A/C stopped working at 2 PM on a Friday. The temperature outside was 95 degrees. We called Westbrook, who said they could have someone to our house?by around 4:30 PM. At 4:30 PM, Roberto from Westbrook arrived. Within 10 seconds of looking at our A/C unit, he spotted the problem. He gave us the price for the broken?piece, and we gave him?the go-ahead to replace it. He also cleaned the system, which was way overdue. By 6 PM, our house was once again cooling down.?Roberto was polite, informative and helpful. This was superb?customer service at its best.??"

Storm Shelters questions, answered by experts

Building a house is generally more expensive upfront than moving an existing one. However, the total cost depends on factors such as location, size, materials, labor, and permits. Moving a house can incur significant expenses for transportation, permits, site preparation, and renovations. On the other hand, building a new house allows for customization and may have lower long-term maintenance costs.

If you’re building a pole barn in place of a traditional home, lenders usually don’t offer traditional mortgages for these structures. You can also expect higher insulation costs and building permits may not be allowed in your area. Even if you’re just using a pole barn as storage or as a shelter for animals, these structures are less durable than steel buildings and require more maintenance.

In most cases, yes, an outdoor living space adds value to your home. The trick to your best return on investment is to choose high-quality building materials that will look nice and durable without crossing the line into total luxury that becomes cost-ineffective. For example, there’s no need to install marble tiles around your pool, but a durable and aesthetically pleasing deck will go a long way.

There are energy-efficient options when building a cottage. Select green building materials, high-performance insulation, and energy-efficient windows when designing your cottage. Options such as solar panels, efficient HVAC systems, and LED lighting can lower your utility bills and reduce your environmental impact. Many builders offer energy-efficient upgrades as part of the design process.

The national average cost for a building permit is around $1,600, a figure that typically includes major renovations. Costs can vary significantly depending on the job. For instance, basic construction, plumbing, or minor electrical permits can cost between $10 and $150, while permits for building a new home can reach $2,000 or more. Overall, homeowners typically spend between $150 and $2,000 for one or more permits for a project. Keep in mind that fees may not be flat rates; they can also be calculated as a percentage of the project's cost or size.
