"Joseph was awesome, friendly and understood my needs! He exspained everything he was doing and why. Made recommendations as far as my chickens that free range and being safe. "We have lived in our (1990â s) house for 3+ years and have had a problem with small insects in the kitchen. In that time, $$$ was spent on tons of bug spray, plug in traps with sticky pads and fancy LEDâ s -nothing worked. Frustrated and tired of worthless home remedies, I called the Pros at Home Seal to do what they do best. Should have called them 3 years ago. In a few hours our problem was solved/Sealed! Shawn and his staff are very professional and knowledgeable. I received texts with photos explaining exactly what needed to be done and was updated in real time as the job was being completed. The whole experience was pleasant and best of all - No More Bugs!! GREAT JOB!! Thank you Home Seal!"

Pest Control questions, answered by experts

Some stores sell smoke bombs to drive animals out of spaces, but we don’t recommend you use them, especially in an attic. The smoke can be toxic to humans or pets that may accidentally inhale it. Meanwhile, critters can easily escape the smoke by temporarily leaving the attic, only to return via their usual entry points after the smoke clears.

Roaches may not be quite as common on the top floors of a home, but they can easily climb up there if they want to. Second stories are less likely to have food sources and somewhat less likely to have moisture issues, so most roaches are attracted to bottom levels first. However, humid attics and similar spots can help roaches thrive.

You can easily find sprays that claim they are safe for pets and kids. However, we’d rather not use them in our own homes if we’re worried about pet safety: They still include pesticides and other chemicals, and are best avoided in any food prep areas like the kitchen, or any spots where children and pets may place. That’s why sprays didn’t end up in our suggestions for the safest options.

Naturally occurring EPA-registered Bti products are an effective way to kill off mosquitoes at the larval stage. And, although they won’t wipe them out, there are lots of natural repellents that make your yard less attractive to mosquitoes. Try planting some marigolds, lemon thyme, or other plants they’ll steer clear of, light a citronella candle or two, or lay some bug-offensive cedar mulch.

Some suggest mothballs as a deterrent for iguanas, but they are ineffective and harmful. Mothballs contain chemicals like naphthalene or paradichlorobenzene, which are toxic to humans and animals, including iguanas. The fumes can cause respiratory problems, skin irritation, and other health issues. Moreover, using mothballs outdoors is not recommended, as they contaminate soil and water sources.
