"I called Green’s Environmental Services because they had amazing ratings on Angie’s List. I thought it might have been a really long time since the septic tank had been pumped out, and with the toilets having issues, I needed help quickly. They came out first thing the next morning and took care of everything with no attempts to upsell unnecessarily. They were incredibly easy to work with and the owner really went above and beyond to make sure everything was done correctly. Highly recommend these guys."

"We dealt directly with Steve. He 100% knows what he's doing. The city hires him for all kinds of things. We checked out quite a few competitors for water softener prices. Really no comparison. We ended up buying a water softener on Craig's List and then purchased the whole house filtration. Steve exceeded our expectations on the installation. YES I would use him again. Very knowledgable and competitive pricing."

"He came and inspected and gave a good honest opinion that no major repairs would be needed at the time. They did not try and upsell us and looked out for ways to save cost without replacing the current disposal.

"They were quick to respond and very professional. I can’t remember the name of the gentleman who came to find and fix our pool leak, but he was very professional, friendly, and thorough; he found one leak and fixed it quickly. We are very happy with the work."

"We were in a time crunch to get our 4 bedroom popcorn ceiling removed and knock down texture put on. Also needed all the bedrooms carpets removed. We contacted Five Star Remodeling and they promptly respond to us and gave us an estimate. They were able to get the job done with very short notice and we truly appreciate it. Job was done in the time that was estimated and everything looks great! We will definitely use them again."

Install Garbage Disposal FAQs, answered by experts

On average, it takes one to four hours for a professional to install a garbage disposal. This includes removing the old unit, taking necessary measurements for positioning, removing and fitting new pipes, and installing the brand-new disposal system. If there are unforeseen issues, such as accessibility concerns, the process takes longer.

Soil is just one of the items you shouldn't put down a garbage disposal. Garbage disposals are only meant for soft, non-fibrous foods. Large amounts of topsoil, dirt, or rocks will damage the blades of your garbage disposal or clog the pipes. If a small amount of dirt goes down the drain as you repot a plant, you shouldn't have to worry, but never dump a whole pot of soil in the sink for fast disposal.

While the drain connection for a garbage disposal is nearly universal and fits standard sink drain holes of 3 1/2 to 4 inches, the size of the disposal unit itself is not. You must have enough space in the cabinet underneath your sink to accommodate the disposal's housing. A larger model may not fit in a compact cabinet or if the existing plumbing is arranged in an unusual way. Before buying a new garbage disposal, measure the available space under your sink. If you are replacing an old unit, it's often easiest to choose a new model of a similar size.

No, you do not need a garbage disposal to have a dishwasher. A dishwasher will work without one, and while it's rare to see a home with a dishwasher that doesn't have a disposal, it is possible. The two appliances pair well and are often installed together because a disposal simplifies meal cleanup.

However, your dishwasher should not be used as a replacement for a garbage disposal. Subjecting it to continuous food leftovers can lead to major clogs. If you choose not to install a garbage disposal, you should thoroughly rinse your plates or scrape excess food into the trash or a compost pile before loading them into the dishwasher to prevent plumbing issues.

Replacing a garbage disposal costs anywhere from $150 to $950, but the average cost is somewhere around $550. There are two types of garbage disposal units, and continuous feed disposals tend to cost more than batch feed disposals. Going for an aluminum garbage disposal is also significantly cheaper than choosing a stainless steel garbage disposal. You'll also need to factor in the horsepower of the motor, labor, and the removal and disposal of your old unit.
