"Shaughan first came out to deal with a double light problem - and found a great way to fix both problems at very modest cost. He came back with EJ to install a celing light in a closet with built in shelves- and through his clever work habit did not leave a speck of dust or debris! Then they installed a new ceiling fan/light combination in our living room. They were very polite, clean and neatly dressed, and completed their work well within our expected time frame. The fee was the amount quoted to us ahead of time. Calvary Electric was recommended to us by neighbors and we will continue to use them and recommend them to others. Great work, Shaughan & EJ, many thanks!"

"I had a new fan installed on my porch and then a new electrical panel in the garage. The young man who did the work, Chris Morals and eventually another employee whose name was Joe helped with this long hard job were both very polite, hard working, knowledgeable of their work (good salesmen too) and stayed until the job was done. Had some issues and Chris refused to leave until the job was completed. They were here from noon till nine at night. No complaints, just kept smiling and doing their job. I've read other reviews, some good some bad and I only hope mine stays one of the good ones. As of today, I would recommend them highly especially my two guys. Let's hope all they did continues to work because if it doesn't, I'll let everyone know!"

"I liked that you always got someone on the phone when you called and they stuck to their word. They came when they said they would. We thought we would have a problem when one of the workers made a hole in our ceiling, but they came back to fix it when they said they would be coming and you can’t even tell the difference. Quality workmanship! I would definitely re-hire if I needed to."

"They are not cheap, but you usually get what you pay for with electricians. They were prompt and did nice work. We have two more things for them to complete, but we re waiting to receive a ceiling fan that was damaged and a light fixture bracket that was missing from the box and we will be finished. I would hire them again if needed!"

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

There are many types of ceiling fans available, each designed for different spaces and needs. Standard ceiling fans are the most common type and work well in most rooms. Low-profile ceiling fans are better suited for rooms with low ceilings. Smart ceiling fans can be controlled with a smartphone or voice commands. For larger spaces with ceilings between 10 and 25 feet high, large ceiling fans are ideal. Dual-motor fans have two motors to produce more airflow in multiple directions. You can also find energy-efficient or Energy-Star models that can be up to 60% more efficient, as well as fans with built-in lights or retractable blades.

The number of blades for your fan poses both advantages and disadvantages. Typically, the more blades on a fan, the better the air distribution and cooling effect, but this also means that your fan will have more wear on its motor. For small rooms, three-blade fans should work fine. For larger areas like living rooms, four or five-blade fans might be the better option.

Whether you can install a ceiling fan yourself depends on if you're replacing an existing fixture or installing one where no wiring exists. If you are replacing an existing fan, an experienced DIYer may be able to do the job, which can save on labor costs. This work typically doesn’t require a permit, but there’s always a safety risk when dealing with electrical components, so hiring a pro is still a good idea, especially if you aren't handy. Keep in mind you may need a special ladder for high or vaulted ceilings. However, if you are installing a new ceiling fan where there is no current fixture, you must hire a licensed electrician. In most areas, it is required by law that a professional runs new wiring and pulls the necessary permits. Attempting to install wiring yourself can be dangerous and a code violation.

Many ceiling fan-rated electrical boxes tend to be made of metal. However, some electrical boxes may also be made of heavy-duty plastic that is reinforced with metal support structures. It may also have an attachment that connects directly to a ceiling joist. If you are ever ensure, consult with a licensed professional to get their insight on best practices and whether the installation is a safe one.

The direction you want your ceiling fan to move in depends on the season you’re in. During summer, you want it to move counterclockwise to produce a cooling downdraft. During winter, you want it to move clockwise to circulate warm air throughout the room.
