"Chris was very prompt and very efficient. He installed a ceiling fan and electrical outlet and did a great job. He explained the surge protection warranty and we decided to take it to protect our property. Our home is not quite a year old. Chris pointed out a burnt wire in our panel box and repaired it. He may have saved us from a fire. I would highly recommend Sargeant s Electric"

"Michael (Mr.Sparky) arrived on time and easily installed my 2 new ceiling fans in my 12 ft ceiling. He also fixed a short in the connection for my over the stove microwave, which I had been having trouble with for a while, and was getting to be a safety concern. I also wanted him to replace a smoke detector, also on the high ceiling, and since they were all over 20 years old, he talked me into replacing all 5 of them in the house. A lot more expensive than I originally planned for (and thought was a bit steep) but my house feels much safer!"

"Lamont did a great job on the many items I needed done. I had a list of work to be done but was having trouble finding one person who could or would do them all. After much searching I found Lamont and read his great reviews. Now I know why. He was able to complete everything on my list! From installing new storm door, replacing interior doors and hardware, repairing holes and painting closets, hanging ceiling fans, cutting marble backsplash and installing, etc. He is very patient and listens to what you want then completes the work nicely. He is polite, respectful, and professional. He was able to work me into his schedule quickly and completed the work in the amount of time estimated and for the price quoted. I highly recommend him for anything you need done and when I need something he is the only person I'll be calling.... I am very thankful to have found him."

"I liked that you always got someone on the phone when you called and they stuck to their word. They came when they said they would. We thought we would have a problem when one of the workers made a hole in our ceiling, but they came back to fix it when they said they would be coming and you can’t even tell the difference. Quality workmanship! I would definitely re-hire if I needed to."

"The men were very nice and respectful. It took them 10 minutes to take fixture out and plug quick connector back in. They did not clean up the mess left on my bathroom counter from removing the light fixture. I received a bid for changing bulbs in our 22 foot ceilings--I would provide the bulbs. The estimate was over $800. $50 per bulb since they needed a special ladder. I did not have this work done. This company is VERY expensive."

"
Residential Services of Ohio (RSO) is an outstanding company!  Bob, the owner, and his associates completed our remodeling project with skill and precision.  The finished outcome well exceeded our expectations.RSO removed several layers of old flooring in our entry hall and kitchen and installed new ceramic tile, removed old drop ceilings in our main floor bath and kitchen, installed new can lighting in the bath and kitchen, built a half wall in the kitchen and installed French doors leading into an office.  RSO installed a new stone backsplash in the kitchen, removed a large mirror in the bathroom, installed a tile border around the shower, and they removed wall paper and painted the whole kitchen and bathroom.  Bob also installed a new closet door in the hallway.  Everything was done with a high level of care and precision.Additionally, Bob paid attention to the little details of the project ~ new base boards for the flooring, light switch covers, vent covers, making sure certain things were done before the new appliances arrived.  With Bob's skill and knowledge in the field, he was able to offer suggestions that were extremely valuable and aided in the overall outstanding look of the finished project.Bob and his team were extremely professional and they arrived on the days and at the times they said they would be here.  They were respectful of our premises and cleaned up after the completion of their work each day.  The project was completed in a timely manner. We could not have asked for a smoother run project and the finished product is AMAZING!!!!!   We have beautiful new features in our home and we would definitely use Residential Services of Ohio in the future."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

To determine if your ceiling box can support a fan, you must check if it is specifically fan-rated. Manufacturers are required to indicate this on the box itself. You may need to remove the existing light fixture to look inside the ceiling box for an inscription stating it is rated for fan use. If you do not see this confirmation, the box is likely not strong enough and must be replaced with a fan-rated junction box. For a proper and safe installation, you should also use a fan brace to secure the new box between the ceiling joists, which provides the necessary support for the fan's weight and motion.

If you’re replacing an old fixture with a ceiling fan, you usually won’t need a permit, but if your electrician runs new wiring for the fixture, you likely will need a permit. Building permits are necessary in most municipalities if you’re making changes to your electrical system, so even if you have partial wiring run to the area and need new wiring installed for added functionality, you’ll probably need a permit. Your electrician should be able to let you know if you need one, and they’ll typically file the paperwork for you.

The direction you want your ceiling fan to move in depends on the season you’re in. During summer, you want it to move counterclockwise to produce a cooling downdraft. During winter, you want it to move clockwise to circulate warm air throughout the room.

Since the cost of installing a ceiling fan is $250 for most homeowners, it might be beneficial to replace your existing fan if you are experiencing a significant repair issue, like a broken motor. However, for less expensive repairs, like a fan blade replacement, you’ll likely spend less on the repair than a complete fan replacement. Of course, if you’re looking for an upgrade or a new style fan, replacing it altogether is always an option.

Fan power is measured by CFM, or cubic feet per minute. For every 1,000 feet of square footage in your attic, you need a minimum of 700 CFM. Steeper roofs may need larger fans or about 840 CFM.  You can figure the size of attic fan you need by multiplying the square footage of your attic floor by 0.7. (multiply by 1.2 for a steep roof and 1.15 for a dark roof). That number is the CFM required for your fan to run efficiently.
