"I live in Apollo Beach and had a sprinkler pump that had stopped working. I called the people that installed the pump. It was about 5 years old. They told me that I needed a new pump and that the pump I had was not the correct one (even though their company installed it). That a new 40' line from the well to the pump was needed. They quoted me $3500. I knew better. I called Bay Area Pump and Well Service right here in Apollo Beach. Wesley Carter and his son came out right on time. They diagnosed the problem as a bad check valve at the well connection and replaced it. They also cleaned out my jet pump and redid the input plumbing into the pump. Installed a ball valve. He explained to me why and how the pump malfunctioned and what he did. They were respectful, courteous and professional. Their charge for parts and service was $200 that included a service charge. They saved me a lot of money. They will be recommended to my family and friends if they need this service. They are honest and reliable."

"Everything went well. Moen cartridge was installed upside down at first. Paid $916 for a $30 part and 1 1/2 hours labor. Was unaware plumbers were that expensive. Was not given a price when making the appointment even though the pricing was indicated in a standardized pricing booklet."

"Installers were very easy to work with. They worked hard installing a French drain and added some length at no additional cost. They also removed and took away old drains that weren't useful. I will hire this company again to install another drain."

"Company review for local business-- This time: Ants short-circuited well pump switch & needed replacement (Last time a long while back: We moved in to house and needed a pump installed to existing well.) RESULTS: Both times, Billy Clark (and sometimes his crew, as needed) were fast, knowledgeable, honest, and-- to prove that last part-- reasonably priced. Both times their installation (Last time) and replacement (This time) worked just fine. Last time, power company had power surges due to bad grounding which caused unequal loading issues, and paid for replacement, but Billy and crew made good at very reasonable rates, and both service calls (Both for the new well hookup and this recent call) were fast, effective, courteous, and reasonably priced: AND-- MOST-IMPORTANTLY-- worked just fine (other than the power surge-- which was NOT well company's fault). I know enough about wells and electrical & mechanical things to know that they treated us fairly. Yeah, I'm glad to write a review for good techs. Would use again and recommend. "It went great! Chris was very prompt at returning my request for more information and even followed back up with me a week later to see if I had any other questions. The technician showed up on time and was very friendly and helpful. They installed the entire system in approx. 2 hours and went over all operation instructions and what to expect with the new softener. This experience was one of the best I've received in a long time! Great company, great people and great service!"

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, a well-maintained sump pump can increase a home's value and make it more desirable to potential buyers; it does not lower property value. By protecting the basement from flooding and water damage, a sump pump provides peace of mind and can make the space usable for storage or as an extra room. For buyers interested in homes with basements, a working sump pump is a significant feature that adds value by ensuring the space is secure and less likely to flood.

A sewage ejector pump is necessary if you have any plumbing fixtures, such as a bathroom, laundry room, or sink, located below the level of your home's main sewer line. Standard plumbing relies on gravity to drain wastewater and solid waste into the municipal sewer system or a septic tank. For fixtures below this level, like those in a basement, gravity cannot move the waste upward. The ejector pump provides the force needed to pump the sewage up to the main line. Without one, wastewater from below-ground fixtures would back up, potentially causing a sewage overflow and flooding. If all of your plumbing is on the main floor or higher, gravity is sufficient and an ejector pump is not needed.

To test for toilet leaks, use water coloring in the water tank and see if the water slips into the bowl from the tank. This test will indicate if there’s a problem with the flapper or refill tube. You can also put water coloring in the bowl of the toilet to see if there is a leak there. If there is, you should see the colored water on the outside of the toilet bowl or on the floor.

If your water pump fails, the first step is to turn off the power to the pump to prevent any further damage. Check for common issues such as clogs, electrical problems, or mechanical failures. If you cannot identify the problem, contact a professional who specializes in pump repairs. Prompt action can help minimize damage and repair costs.

A small sump pump running infrequently uses an average of 10 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per month. The average cost for electricity is $0.171 per kWh. The size and use frequency affect how much electricity it uses. Sump pumps average one-third to one horsepower (hp) motors. One hp is equal to 745.7 watts. Watts multiplied by the time your pump is running divided by 1,000 equals your average kWh. Multiply kWh by your average cost of electricity. In areas with high rain or a marsh basin, the average cost can be as high as $15-$25 a month.
