"Alex was very receptive and actually came out to evaluate the same day we called. He provided an estimate and was able to start the same day and finish Ed the next day. He is very professional and respectful of our home. The work is great and we have received several compliments already. Great job!! Highly recommended"
An Asphalt Overlay(Repaving a 2.5 inch layer over existing driveway) is a very efficient and durable solution when done the proper way.
First off we start the preparations by removing the asphalt sections near garage and sidewalks to have a flush finish on completion.
We also remove the grass and dirt in the desired extension area. Once that is done the crushed stone is added.
After the entire driveway is Edged and Clean, we are almost ready to Pave!
Last but not least a pre-fill layer of asphalt is poured on any low or damaged areas to prevent any problems in the future.

"Alex, arranged the work to be done quickly and the cement work was done 5 star. I had almost 200 feet of sidewalk, 2 driveway aprons, driveway and gravel driveway. The concrete was done wonderfully. Initially the filled the sides with top soil but did not tamp. I have ankle turning trench along the sides of the sidewalk. They did not fill more stone when the took the forms out. I have gaps all long the edge of the gravel driveway, which they were paid to fill. They used my hose without permission, then did not put it on the hose reel, left it in the mud. They used my neighbors hose and water without permission. At the end of my driveway at my gate entrance they put topsoil. I had flagstones down. Instead of picking up the flagstones, they threw topsoil on top of them. Again excellent for their concrete work, but insist the tamp down the dirt where the concrete wood forms are located and inspect every inch of their finish work, which is what I should have done. Just beware of their slo"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Wilmington homeowners may encounter unexpected costs if contractors discover unstable subsoil, requiring additional base preparation. Addressing tree root systems or removing old concrete can also add complexity. If drainage upgrades become necessary to prevent pooling, extra materials and labor may be needed. Limited access for paving equipment on narrow city lots can increase project duration, and weather-related delays sometimes require rescheduling and additional site protection.

Helpful?

After your asphalt paving project is complete in Wilmington, DE, keep all essential records. This includes city permits, your contractor's insurance certificate, and material warranties. Also, file away all payment records, lien waivers, and before-and-after photos. Documenting the recommended seal coating schedule, typically every 2-3 years in this climate, will help you maintain your investment and address future warranty claims.

Helpful?

For a durable asphalt paving project in Delaware, select materials suited for the climate. Professionals recommend dense-graded Hot Mix Asphalt with a PG 64-22 binder to handle freeze-thaw cycles. A base of 6-8 inches of dense-graded aggregate is vital for Wilmington's clay soils. For areas with poor soil conditions, adding a geotextile fabric underneath the base provides extra stability and longevity.

Helpful?

During an asphalt paving project in Wilmington, your input is crucial at several stages. Before work begins, you will approve the drainage design, select the asphalt thickness, and choose edge treatments like Belgian blocks. You must also sign permit applications. During construction, you will verify excavation depth and approve the final surface smoothness and grade before the project is considered complete.

Helpful?

Combining asphalt paving with other upgrades in Wilmington can be very efficient. It is ideal to bundle it with drainage improvements like French drains, underground utility work, or hardscape projects like retaining walls. This approach allows you to address grading and excavation once, potentially saving on equipment mobilization and bulk material orders. Always check with your local HOA for any required architectural review before starting.
