"One problem with Kelly, he has got to keep customers better informed. The original work date was pushed back 3 times - Apr.11 19 21. And on the final day of installation it rained all day, but his crew did a good job in protecting their work from the elements and did a good job on replacing the displaced soil and seeded around the driveway. Kelly does good work for sure but one feels like a small potato when bigger jobs come along. pushing the home owner to the back. That was the feeling I got in hiring him but would still recommend him provided the customer has flex time, which I did not because my house was being listed for sale."

"Driveway sealing job at our home. Was completed in a quick, quality and professional way. Very happy with the outcome and I would recommend and did to my daughter, who also will use Tri State Paving for her driveway. Good and personable workers who took pride in their work. Very pleased with the outcome."

"New Crete did a beautiful job resurfacing our driveway. The builder (Capstone) did a terrible job on the concrete when we had our home built. New Crete ground it down, and worked their magic and it now looks like a new driveway. Great company to work with too. Stayed in touch during the winter months when it was too cold to do the work. "Big improvement over the driveway we started with. Alex and his team delivered the driveway we needed. He worked with us creating the design that worked both functionaly and asteticaly. Totaly changes the look of my house. The quality of the finished product is above what I imagined. They also helped us with transplanting our 14 year old fig tree. The last picture is the before shot."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

At a depth of two inches, a ton of asphalt covers around 80 to 100 square feet. However, the thicker the asphalt, the less surface area it will cover. That’s why measuring correctly is essential when estimating asphalt needs and costs to ensure you get enough material to cover your entire driveway, patio, or other asphalt surface.

Gravel is one of the few driveway materials that can handle rain the second it’s installed. Unlike asphalt, which needs days to set, or concrete, which requires weeks to cure, gravel is ready as soon as it’s compacted. It’s naturally permeable, allowing water to drain straight through—with no risk of pooling or surface damage. Gravel driveways are one of the most affordable, at $1 to $3 per square foot, and can also last upward of 100 years.

Driveways should be sloped with a minimum 2% slope—anything lower will cause precipitation and runoff to collect. A 2% slope is the equivalent of a 2-foot rise over 100 feet. One quick way to check the integrity of your driveway’s slope: no more than four inches of water should collect on the surface longer than 15 minutes after rain.

Since it has a smoother surface using a mixture of finer rock and sand, 41A tends to be the best asphalt grade for a driveway, especially for residential driveways. Other options are available, but more homeowners choose 41A for a smoother asphalt driveway. Talk with your asphalt driveway professional for recommendations of the best grade for your specific driveway.

Asphalt and tarmac are not the same thing. Traditional tarmac, short for tarmacadam, uses tar as a binder to hold crushed stone together. Asphalt uses bitumen—a byproduct of crude oil—to bind aggregate. Though tarmac was once a go-to for roads, asphalt has become the modern standard. And these days, most surfaces referred to as “tarmac” are actually asphalt. So, while the names may overlap, the key distinction lies in the binder—tar for tarmac and bitumen for asphalt.
