"I am an avid reader of reviews but seldom write reviews unless a review is truly warranted (good or bad). In this case, I feel the need to share my positive experience with Callaway Corporation since this is uncommon in my area, especially with contractors. I cannot say enough great things about Callaway Corporations, to include Keith, Katharine, and all of the hard workers that actually installed my new roof. Keith is amazing, going above and beyond to assist with providing insurance information. Keith made many extra trips to my house to meet with Insurance Adjusters before I even agreed to hire him. Katherine worked relentlessly to coordinate everything, including the removal of my solar with the solar company. The guys who installed the rood worked from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with maybe a 30-minute lunch break, to ensure the work was completed in a timely manner. Callaway definitely exceeded my expectations with customer service, workmanship, and level of professionalism. I would not hesitate to call on Callaway Corporation for any future needs."

"Jordan Taylor was our rep and did an outstanding of explaining the entire process to us, including how to submit the roof replacement to insurance due to a wind storm. He was super responsive for every question, and he personally got our HOA approval, then walked it through the town govt to get the permit! On the day of installation, his team worked efficiently and quickly, and our roof was completed by late afternoon, including full and thorough cleanup. Jordan came back the next day to walk the property to make sure all garbage was picked up. Economy Restoration will also provide a Quality Control person to go up on the roof for the final inspection, which really gives us a secure feeling. Our roof is amazing, along with the entire process and the pricing is very fair. I highly recommend Jordan and Economy Restoration!"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

In some cases, yes, you can put a second roof layer over architectural shingles, but it depends on your home’s structural stability and the local building codes where you live. Architectural shingles are thicker and heavier than standard asphalt shingles, so you may need structural reinforcement or a structural engineer’s inspection before proceeding. Additionally, some building departments don’t allow for two roof layers, regardless of the roof type. You should ask a professional if ripping the old roof off before installing the new one is the best option for you.

No, a metal roof will not make your house hot. In fact, metal roofs help keep your home cooler by reflecting heat instead of absorbing and transmitting it inside. Metal also has high thermal conductivity, which means it gains and loses heat quickly. While the sun may heat the metal, the roof rapidly transfers that heat back into the air rather than retaining it. This reflective property can lead to energy cost savings of up to 40%, as your cooling system won't need to work as hard to maintain a consistent indoor temperature.

A chimney liner is typically easier to install by pushing it down through the chimney with the help of a rope. Depending on your fireplace and the type of liner, installing it by pushing it up through the chimney could work, but operating from the top down is usually the best option.

Hiring a reliable roofing contractor requires finding a company in your area with years of experience, holds the necessary licensing, and has a history of positive customer reviews and services. Start by researching whether a roofer you’re considering hiring holds the necessary certifications. Consider requesting customer references from your top contenders. Finally, get quotes from a few roofing companies and decide which provides the best value overall.

There should be small gaps between your roof and the walls of your home, and other buildings. These small gaps let building materials shift, expand, and contract with weather and other outside forces, and they prevent moisture from wicking down walls from roofing and gutter systems. Without these strategic gaps, your home’s exterior and its finishes can sustain water damage, decay, peel, delaminate, and crack. However, there is a fine line between a smart gap and a problematic gap—all  gaps should be small, intentional, and covered or filled in with foam insulation to prevent pests from using them as access points.
