Small jobs welcome

"We recently had our foyer completely transformed by Glenn and his crew, and I truly can’t say enough good things about the experience. From start to finish, the professionalism, kindness, and customer service were exceptional. What stood out most was that there was never any pushback, every idea or question was met with “yes, we can do that,” and Glenn always approached the project with patience, confidence, and genuine care. He was incredibly accurate with the project timeline, kept the workspace clean and organized every day, and was very conscientious about working in our home. His crew was professional, respectful, and hardworking throughout the entire process. Most importantly, the final result absolutely brought my vision to life. Glenn truly made my dream foyer a reality. The craftsmanship and attention to detail are beautiful, and you can tell he is extremely talented, knowledgeable, and takes pride in his work. We are beyond happy with the outcome, highly recommend!"

"I bought my condo over 10 years ago and was looking for a contractor to help me with painting, new flooring, lighting, and other general remodeling. John was extremely knowledgeable. Not only did he help me with selecting the right sub-contractors (and he knows many) but he took the time and went above and beyond to even help me with the purchasing of all of the materials, doors, paint, supplies, finishing's, etc. that I needed. He reviewed all of my the contracts with my sub-contractors and ensured that I was not just receiving the best and fair price, but that the work was going to be completed the correct way (example: fixing popcorn ceiling, ripping up tile, installing hardwood floor etc.) I would highly recommend John to anyone that is looking for a no non-sense contractor that knows what he's doing. I definitely plan on hiring him again for the rest of my renovation project which will include the kitchens and bathrooms."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

It’s best to use two screws to secure deck boards into every joist. Securing the boards to every joist makes the deck more structurally sound, while using two screws on the outer sides of the boards can help prevent warping and cupping.

The primary parts of a house that need framing during construction are floors, exterior walls, interior walls, and the roof. The framing in these areas provides the skeleton for adding other materials over the top. With walls, for example, contractors can hang drywall over the interior walls and siding over the outside of the exterior walls. Proper framing ensures a sturdy house that is built to last.

For a professional carpenter, installing a window seat can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on some aspects of the project. Aside from building the seat itself, if they have to remove any cabinets, shelves, or baseboards, that will add time to the project.

Using a steel frame may raise the value of your home. Steel is more heat resistant, has better longevity, and doesn’t need any upkeep compared to traditional wood. You can also customize a steel build a little easier than other materials like brick, concrete, and vinyl—which have trouble bending and adapting to renovations.

The easiest way to tell if a wall is load bearing is to check if it’s an exterior wall or if it runs perpendicular to the joists above and below it (or parallel to beams). Exterior walls are almost always load-bearing, and walls that run under beams or parallel to them are also usually load-bearing. There are exceptions to these rules, and walls that don’t fit into these categories can still be load-bearing. If you’re unsure, hire a structural engineer to look at your home to assess whether or not the wall is structural.
