Small jobs welcome

"Very slow team took a very long time to move items also not experienced in essembling furniture. It took over an hour to put a crib together that they took apart and few screws were missing. My husband had to finish the job. The sales person Steve that gives you the quote said 2 guys will be enough after going through our inventory. Guys were exhausted. I told him every other moving company recommends 3 guys...but whatever."

Emergency services offered

"We were very impressed with this piano moving company. They were punctual, polite, and more importantly, they knew what they were doing. The pianos were carefully wrapped in quilted covers, and they were very careful when bringing the pianos into the provided space. They arrived right on time, after picking up the baby grand, and then took our upright piano and delivered it from NY to NJ, just when they said they'd be there. I would highly recommend Action Piano Moving Co."

"Capital City Movers NYC are exceptional movers! Previously I had never found a moving company that I was overly satisfied with. I had posted in a facebook group and someone recommended them. I was hesitant at first but after speaking with the company I felt much more comfortable using them. They are pleasant to speak with and were very thorough when listing out the item move list. Their prices are also very reasonable. I was then able to modify the list as the move got closer and I had a better idea of what my list was. The day of the move the three movers arrived on time and were very efficient. They were careful with all my items and followed instructions thoroughly. I also thought they had great personalities. The three guys were very tall and very strong. I used foreman Peter and two other guys. I find a lot of moving company movers are miserable. During and after the move the company followed up to make sure the move went well. I would definitely use Capital City Movers NYC again. Thank you guys for everything!"

Piano Moving questions, answered by experts

Yes: Many moving companies also offer packing services, so you can get a quote that covers the entire move from start to finish.

It takes professional movers longer to load a moving truck than unload it. However, it depends on the specifics of your move. It takes some time to strategize the most efficient way to load the moving truck with your furniture, boxes, and belongings. That’s why it’s important to rent the right size moving truck to ensure everything fits and makes the loading process move faster.

The average cost to hire professional movers is approximately $1,700, but the total price can range from as low as $920 to over $12,000 depending on the move's complexity. For local moves, typically under 100 miles, costs generally fall between $920 and $2,530. Long-distance moves are more expensive, with prices ranging from $2,700 to $10,000 or more.

Several key factors influence the final cost:

  • Distance and Home Size: The mileage of the move and the size of your home.

  • Number of Movers: Hourly rates can range from $25 to $50 for one or two movers, increasing to $100 to $200 for a team of four or more.

  • Services: Additional services like packing, unpacking, and storage will add to the cost.

  • Specialty Items: Moving large or delicate items such as pianos, vehicles, or large aquariums incurs extra charges.

  • Timing and Access: The time of year, your specific moving date, and the ease of access to your home can affect rates.

Don’t forget to account for other potential costs like moving supplies and tipping your movers.

If you need to move heavy furniture inside your house, like a grandfather clock, consider hiring professional movers for this service, too. Many moving companies advertise in-house moving services, including transporting heavy items to different rooms or floors of the house. It’s best to hire professional movers for this task to avoid damaging parts of your home, like narrow stairways or flooring, or the item during the process.

Yes, there are sometimes hidden costs when hiring a moving company. These can include fees for packing, handling, and assembling specific large items, fees for packing materials used, and charges for trips over a certain mileage. To avoid hidden fees, always request a detailed quote before booking or paying a deposit.
