If you'd like to see your precious belongings destroyed for a fee, Capital City Movers is the company for you. We contracted Capital City to help us move exercise equipment from our old home to our new home. Their staff reassured us throughout the sales process that they do this regularly and would have no problem moving our Peloton and other less smart equipment. From there, they quickly up sold us to handling our entire move at what seemed like a reasonable rate. When they arrived on moving day the problems began. First they were suddenly unwilling and unable to move the exercise equipment with out "experts" and wanted to raise the costs accordingly. "You didn't tell us the Peloton includes a screen!" I should have known right there to end all engagement with this company, but they assured me experts were on the way and that they had just made a mistake with the initial staff they sent over. When the "experts" arrived, they were able to dismantle and move our equipment (including a $5K~ Peloton treadmill) - but seemed unable to reassemble it in a working fashion. My brand new treadmill now more closely resembles a failed Ikea assembly project and not the luxury device it was. Metal components were bent, plastic components crazy glued(!) after being broken or cracked, and the motor made grinding noise when activated. Capital City's moving staff quickly admitted they had never moved exercise equipment before, let alone a Peloton treadmill or bike - and that they felt unqualified but pressured by management to move it and misrepresent themselves as experts. Over the next month we've attempted to work closely with Capital City Movers to rectify this matter. They've sent over 3 separate repairmen who each looked at the damage and stated it was irreparable and admitted it was caused by improper disassembly and reassembly. The few attempts they did make at fixing it resulted in the treadmill no longer functioning at all. Each time we have contacted Capital City's management team about this they have looked to shift blame or deny the damage their own staff have clearly identified as being their own fault. (eg "Are you sure it worked before the move it?" "Thats what it supposed to sound like" etc) And thats just the exercise equipment. Don't get me started on the furniture they broke and tried to hide damage so I wouldn't notice. As just one example, Imagine my surprise when I found an expensive full length wooden mirror glued back together after they broke a leg. In summary, if you have something really expensive that you want to turned into a heavy paperweight call Ina and her team at Capital City Movers. They'll destroy everything you want at a reasonable rate, and then do everything they can to avoid ownership of the problem, and dodge your calls/emails.

Unfortunately after posting my review I was contacted and they tried to pacify me promising to handle the situation and asked me to remove the review, I advised that it will only be removed once it's completely handled, 2 weeks later still nothing. At this point justice will be served for everyone they play games with. Original post from yelp 1/23: If I was able to give no star I would, unfortunately I must give 1 star to write a review. I would like to start by letting everyone know I have used Capital City many times in the past for myself and people in my company, as long as everything goes well it seems great, the moment you have an issue they completely ignore you and don't mind loosing a client over it. My move was slightly different than a typical move. I had a flood and had to pack my things for storage in unit 1 and move to a storage facility In the meantime I moved to Unit 2 in the same building temporarily, being it was fully furnished everything went to storage. While the guys came to pack I let them know many times these are going to storage to make sure they pack it good, it got to the point where one of them was getting annoyed and told me he is a professional at this and let him do his job. Fast forward apx 60 days later: I already prepaid for part 1 and 2 Agreement is to pick up from storage and deliver Assemble the furniture they took apart PACK and move all personal belongings from unit 2 back to Unit 1 I get a call from Nigel to review my job a few days prior. He insisted on sending a full crew to NJ to pick up instead of splitting up and sending to pack. I advised him that my building has a no mover policy past 430 and he was convinced there was enough time. Day of move: 10am - boxes picked up from storage in NJ 2pm - they arrive in NYC at my appartment, workers at that point know nothing about Unit 2 moving down, further they have no packing supplies, and they tell me we are only 2 guys and none of us are carpenters that can put your things back together. They attempt to call for backup and get no help, they attempt to do as much as they can on there own. They start off by unloading the truck and opening certain boxes they take back with them (TV Boxes, wardrobe, ect). First TV 65" OLED that was a few month old at the time comes out broken. The workers saw it and mentioned how the packaging had nothing to protect it as it looks like they used a smaller tv box and bent the sides to fit this TV. How ironic the exact same thing I warned them when they came to pack actually happened. TV # 2 Samsung 8k series comes out of the box and the casing is cracked. That TV was not even in a TV box, it looked like they took multiple boxes and made a homemade box. The workers notified the boss and took detailed pictures and advised someone will be in touch with me. During the move down (they only managed to do apx 40% of it, and it entailed a lot of throwing into boxes due to time, I get a call from Neff stating that I must pay $700 for that part as it was not part of my agreement that I actually agreed upon and paid 2 months prior. I forwarded him the email with our agreement and he stayed quiet. I waited a week for someone to contact me and no one has I emailed 3 different people at the company and also no response I send another follow up email and still no response. I have been caused thousands of dollars financial damage due to this company negligence and they fail to take any responsibility. I strongly suggest to everyone out there DO NOT use Capital City Movers. If they can treat me like this imagine what they would do to you the moment you have an issue.

We had a 2 phase move: 1 - small move from our coop to a one bedroom apartment (both in Manhattan). 2 - second move move from Manhattan to Ft. Lauderdale Fl. 1 - the first move was smooth, the men professional, and competent. 2 - the second was a disaster. City movers arrived on time to pack some of our items (we had done the major part), and then pack the truck. The first thing out of the lead movers mouth was that they were not hired to pack. It was in our contract and was paid for. We had to call the office for them to instruct him it was in the contract; he finally did the packing. Otherwise, the men worked well - did the packing, loaded truck, and we gave the lead mover the certified bank check as required. A week or so later, we were called by the centeral office and told that the lead mover had lost the certified bank check (a check that is as good as cash). After a lot of stressful back and forth, the company realized that we had no intention of issuing another check. Then, when the furniture arrived in Florida, the crew her was fine. Did a good job and were pleasant to deal with. BUT we found that the centeral office had billed our American Express account twice for the Florida move. Again, a stressful back and forth over 3 days until we were finally credited. It seems that they have two owners located in different places - so the right hand does not know what the left is doing. In addition, the lead mover in NYC was absolutely dreadful - a real hustler because he was willing to have the men pack for a small additional fee. Even when we tipped him and the men, he looked at his own tip ($50) and asked if that was it. NEVER AGAIN would I use them. They're probably good with simple short moves, but not competent when it come to anything more. Very negative experience PS - We had over $1,000 in broken or damaged items as a result of the packing and moving done by the NYC crew. The company was only willing to give us $300. This battle is still ongoing.

We found this group on Angie's List, and it was everything promised. It was a short drive/move to the new apartment, just the same, this is an incredibly professional, competent and experienced group that was a dream to work with. The movers were very pleasant and responsive to our requests. Their customer service is phenomenal - prior to the move they were in contact several time to check in, handled all of the insurance details required by our co-op as well as those of the apartment building we moved into, and immediately after the moved their office contacted us to assure all went well and that we were satisfied . I strongly recommend them and would use them again when the need arises.

Capital City Movers NYC are exceptional movers! Previously I had never found a moving company that I was overly satisfied with. I had posted in a facebook group and someone recommended them. I was hesitant at first but after speaking with the company I felt much more comfortable using them. They are pleasant to speak with and were very thorough when listing out the item move list. Their prices are also very reasonable. I was then able to modify the list as the move got closer and I had a better idea of what my list was. The day of the move the three movers arrived on time and were very efficient. They were careful with all my items and followed instructions thoroughly. I also thought they had great personalities. The three guys were very tall and very strong. I used foreman Peter and two other guys. I find a lot of moving company movers are miserable. During and after the move the company followed up to make sure the move went well. I would definitely use Capital City Movers NYC again. Thank you guys for everything!

They arrived 10 minutes early, wrapped and taped everything, loaded the truck and were on their way in less than 90 minutes. The move went well and we were able to load the china cabinets before dinner time. Great move for a very reasonable price.

Extremely well from beginning to end. I highly recommend this company. Capital City Movers is without a doubt the best mover I've every dealt with and I've done about 13 moves. Top notch movers and top notch customer service. Not one thing was damaged or lost. Brandon was superb and responded quickly to every single call, text and email. Look no further for the best movers out there.

Capital City Movers did an excellent job moving my furniture to a new apartment. Brandon, the relocation consultant, was very courteous and gave me the best price of all the movers I met with. On the day of the move, the team was punctual. They packed all my items carefully and then set the new apartment up perfectly. I plan to use them again for future moves.

The movers did good work, but as is the case with most moving companies, it was unclear about the final payment terms until the end. In particular, travel time was an additional fee, not included in the deal purchased.

Lots of problems and a high price. Arranged for pre-packing the night before the move so move out would be faster. Crew arrived 2+ hours late. Company estimated 3-4 hours move out time but it took more like 8 hours to load the truck which turned out to be too small so my bed had to be strapped to the outside of the truck and there was no room for our bicycles, so I had to put them back into my old apartment and find another way to move them. Becuase truck was overfilled, crew had to discard some larger cardboard bins they brought and they left them, along with empty tape rolls and debris, in the steeet in front of the coop. The lateness of the move crated a very tense situation in which the manager of the new building tried to prevent us from moving in - mind you this was a Friday so we were looking at being homeless for 3 more days with no place to store our worldly possessions. To ease the situation, I insisted the company send more help and they did comply but they sent only one person, so although he was hardworking, it made no real difference and the unload took hours too. I then insisted that the company send a van and a couple of guys to move the bicycles the next day and that I get a partial refund. To their credit, the company readily provided both, but that doesn’t make up for the intense aggravation and lost hours.
Response from Capital City Movers
"[Member Name Removed], Thank you for your review. We appreciate your feedback and value your business. The crew that was dispatched arrived within the arrival window that was provided. We never provide guarantees regarding how long a job will take since we are not an hourly company. We provide rough estimates for timing, but given the nature of moving many variables come into play that can either prolong or expedite the process. As a result we dispatched another crew member, unfortunately being that the date was the last Friday of the month it was extremely busy and our manpower was limited, otherwise more men would have been sent to accommodate. Through it all communication was consistent and our team was responsive. We are happy to know that you found the team to be hard working and professional. Moving is stressful as it is and it is our intent to relieve that stress as best as possible. We wish you the very best with your new home and appreciate the opportunity of serving you."

Just completed my move and I would have to say Capital City Movers gave me by far the best moving experience I could ask for. From the initial quote (which never changed) to the final move in and setup, I was more than pleased with the entire crew (including the back office and in-person movers). I was provided with a COI beforehand and itemized list of items to be handled. The crew took extra care with every item handled throughout the process, as if it were their own, and aided in the placement of my items to my liking. The move was quick and easy, making for a seamless transition into my new space. Thank you Capital City Movers, and I would recommend this company to anyone moving in the future.

1 review 5.0 star rating 10/3/2017 Great Moving Experience! They did an amazing job. We had an entire apartment with 10 years worth of stuff, plus all of my children's stuff. We had very big furniture and furniture that had to be taken apart. Not once scratch! They were on time, polite and professional. Very accommodating. Competitive prices. I highly recommend them and I would definitely use them again!

Moving is the worst. However, Capital City Team 1 made our experience as stress-free as it possibly could be. The team was timely, efficient, friendly, careful. Someone came to assess our costs, and they operate by pre-agreed price, not hourly. There were no hidden fees, no surprises at the end, no hours where it seemed like nothing had gotten done. If I could dream up a moving experience, this really would be it. I will use Capital City for any future moves and recommend them to all my friends, family or strangers. I don't know why you would use anyone else!

Moved 6/5/17 finally. Very frustrating. First day was a NO SHOW then my livingroom chair was punctured due to lack of materials to cover it. Entire move took too much time. Email sent to mgmt (x2) with no response so far. Crew was great.

Used capital city for a recent move within NJ. Very professional from start to finish. Started with Brandon who provided a very competitive quote ( I had quotes from 3 other companies). He took his time to create a thorough inventory list. On the moving date, Sash and his crew were extremely professional and polite all through the 10 hours of loading, moving and unloading. They took great care of the items and did all the hard work with a smile on their faces. Would highly recommend them!! Thanks and good job.

Capital City was FANTASTIC! The movers Maitre and Elvin were polite, courteous, and meticulously clean. They didn't disturb any of my co-tenants. On the other end they had to find a cabin in the middle of nowhere and carry the furniture in along a dirt road. Throughout all this they were thoroughly pleasant and professional. My office building is full of rules about the freight elevator, insurance, workman's comp, etc etc and they dealt with all of that paperwork. I was dreading this move for months, and it was a total pleasure.
