"the insulation they recommended saved me about 5000kw a year. the amount of money i am saving is far more the insulation payment on my Eversource bill. No money cost to me out of pocket and my electric bill dropped quite a bit. best move i ever did."

"Excellent.  The most professional of those we interviewed.  Really knew what they were doing, and told us why the method they suggested would be the best for us (as well as the least expensive).  Did everything they said they would, and more as the found places uncovered during demolition, at no additional charge."

"I live in and own a 2-family home that has flat rook and that is located in the Bronx, NY. I live in the lower unit and my tenants live in the upper unit, which is right below the roof. Our current and previous tenants would often complain that the rental unit felt cold when the temperature outside fell and my wife said that even when the indoor temperature in that unit was high, the unit felt drafty, which can make the unit feel colder than it actually is as the heat escapes through the roof rapidly. A contractor who installed kitchen for us in that unit told us that our roof had absolutely no insulation- something he saw when he installed the exhaust for range hood. So last year, I decided to call this company for a quote. My hope was that insulating the roof would significantly decrease the release of heat, which would make the unit warmer and reduce airflow (i.e., drafts). When I called, a really nice receptionist answered the phone, took my information down, and answered a few questions, and told me that the owner, Joe, would call me back either the same day or the next. The reason for this is that Joe is usually out doing roof insulations himself. When Joe called back, I was quoted a price of $3.00/square foot, but decided not to go ahead at that time. He was very nice and polite and is willing to answer lots of questions. He seems really passionate about his work and will describe in pretty significant detail what he does. This year, we decided to pull the trigger so we called back and received a quote of $2.50/square foot- a savings of $500 to insulate our 1,000 square foot roof. As you can imagine, that made me happy. We spoke on Friday and set up an appointment for Wednesday (5 days later). Joe and one of his workers arrived with their truck at 7:30 am and were finished by 9:45 am. The process was so much faster than I could have imagined. And, they didn't even have to come inside the house! Joey and his worker used a 40-ft tall ladder to scale the front of the house (it's 3 stories high) and to take their equipment up to the roof. Once up there, they used an electric saw to make a hole (they might have made 2) through which to blow in the insulation. The noise from the saw lasted about 10-15 minutes, after which the work they were doing was relatively quiet. I was actually really amazed at how non-intrusive the whole thing was and how quickly the job was completed. Joey made sure to show me exactly what kind of insulation he was using and gave me written materials about the product he was using (blow-in fiberglass). If Angie's List lets me update this review, I will definitely write back once we have experienced the insulation in cold weather to describe how well it is working."

"They arrived on time. They offered assistance with moving the furniture out of their work area. The workers made sure to cover the floors and all the furniture before they began their work. The work was completed in two days as predicted. They forgot to include one of the entryways ceilings In the contract. I mentioned this to the worker and after a phone call to Ari they proceeded to do the work. Although I would have liked to see Ari at some point during the insulation process, I believe the work was done well. We will wait for this coming winter to give our final verdict.

"We moved into our new home three weeks ago and a home energy audit was on top of my agenda.   We had done one at our previous home and quickly saw improvements in our utility bills.
I suspect that we will see the same given the thoroughness the three member team showed.  They spent close to 3 hours plugging holes, replacing light fixtures and developing suggestions where we could see further savings.  In addition, they provided a number of rebates for added insulation, appliance replacement etc.  I would recommend to anyone.

"I hired Paragon a year and a half ago in 2016 to remodel a small galley kitchen and bathroom in a one bedroom in Manhattan. Overall, I thought they did a really nice job and would also have rated them a B+ (like one other rater had suggested) had this rating been available. I enjoyed working with Paul B, and Kyle, and the rest of the crew. They were professional, hard working, and a bunch of good guys. I think their labor pricing was reasonable based on my other comparisons. While I haven't done any remodeling before, I assume there is always some hiccups along the way. Process-wise, I believe there could have been slightly more communication/written organization rather than relying on verbal (e.g., the initial kitchen back splash was tiled staggered though I had asked for it to be stacked. This was easily corrected but it would have brought more comfort had everything been in writing). I also felt the plumber could have been a bit more professional. I had bought a shower system that didn't seem terribly complicated to me but he didn't seem to understand how the system worked, scaring me to thinking that I ordered the wrong parts. Eventually he got it but I was surprised that he wasn't familiar with it. The toilet also wasn't set properly initially on the wax ring so there was some leaking initially with the toilet. That said, they were great at coming back and resetting and fixing the issue per their guarantee. I tend to be a picky customer in all aspects of my life. My bar is pretty high so i did ask them to redo some of the tiling in the bathroom as it wasn't as smooth as I had expected. Again, they did reset it and generally had a good attitude about it. All in all, I liked the folks at Paragon, and appreciated Tom letting me pick the specific material I wanted for the project. I thought the pricing was reasonable, the crew worked hard, and they were fairly responsive to my high bar. And 1+ years out, the renovation is still good with no signs of any problems."

"
Troy was great! He is a little hard to get a hold of, but when he said he would show up, he did or called and told us he was running late every time. Our job was time and materials, so there was no bid before hand.Troy worked very hard while in the house, was professional and polite, did very clean work and left the job site cleaner than when he arrived. We scheduled Troy to come in to move all the water pipes and develop a solution to poor insulation / moisture barrier from when the bathroom was added to the house in the 1970s.  Troy took two days to do this part as he ran in to some problems that were not his fault (The house is 137 years old - this happens every time).  Troy was very creative in solving the moisture barrier and insulation problem.  He did excellent work replacing the sub floor and was able to match it perfectly so that the new tile floor would match grade level to the floor outside the bathroom.  He did use a sub-contractor for the pipe work, but Troy was always there while he was working.  The only thing negative was they forgot to put escutcheons around the pipes before they welded the valves on (Minor, but irritating). We then had to book Troy to return when we were done with replacing the tile backer board and installing tile floor and subway tiles on the wall.We booked him to return in 4 weeks (We are weekend warriors -  We knew it would take us at least this long).Troy returned as scheduled to complete the job.  He stayed and worked for 10 hours till the job was done.  He installed the new toilet and the pedestal sink we had purchased.  We also had him go ahead and replace all the hardware in the shower and install new shower doors.
Troy works very methodically - He may seem slow, but when he does it, he does it right (unlike other contractor / handymen we have used)
We are very happy over all with the work that Troy did and will use him again."

FAQs for insulation service projects in Sandy Hook, CT

When choosing a professional insulation installer, consider asking these questions to determine the best fit.

  • Will you address air leaks in my house?

  • Can you provide an R-value (heat resistance) fact sheet?

  • What kind of insulation will work best for my home?

  • How do you handle signs of a water leak?

  • Are you licensed and insured?

  • Can you provide customer references?

The best type of insulation for your home depends on what you need, so the answer will depend on your specific situation. If you’re building a house, structural panels are easy to install during the building process in addition to being the most energy efficient type. If you live in a warm climate, reflective insulation may benefit you more as it costs less than other insulation types. And for standard attics, loose-fill, spray foam, or blown-in insulation work well.

If you plan to heat or cool your garage, you’ll need to insulate the garage ceiling. Insulating your garage ceiling will make your garage much more energy efficient and save on heating and cooling costs. Not only does insulation make your garage more energy efficient, it helps reduce noise and can extend the life of your garage roof. You can use fiberglass, cellulose, mineral wool, or spray foam insulation for this project.

In some cases, you may not have enough insulation to properly regulate your home’s temperature. Watch for a few signs your home needs more insulation, such as:

  • High heating and cooling bills

  • Uncomfortable room temperatures

  • Ice dams on the edge of your roof

  • Roof leaks

  • Cold floors and walls

  • Freezing pipes

  • Temperature fluctuations

  • Visibly low insulation

  • Noise problems

  • Pest problems

On average, insulating an attic costs about $2,500, ranging from $1,500 to $3,500, depending on the insulation type, amount, and your attic’s accessibility. Additional cost factors include sealing air leaks, removal or replacement of insulation, and inspections. Types of insulation include:

  • Blown-in: $1–$4 per square foot

  • Spray foam: $2–$5 per square foot

  • Batt: $2–$4 per square foot

  • Structural insulated panels: $4–$7 per square foot

  • Loose-fill: $2–$5 per square foot

  • Reflective: $0.50–$1.50 per square foot
