Customers say: True professional

"Best contractor I have ever worked with! Usein was very communicative and extremely pleasant to work with. The work was completed exactly on time, and it turned out even better than we hoped! He was very flexible with us and explained things very clearly. He took such great care of our house while working on it, and treated it as if it were his own - which really helped us turn our house into a "home" when we moved in! Would highly recommend him and his team!"

"Big bang on to the services of Barbot construction. I had communicated them via email. They were very fast and within a span of hour they quickly sent their team members to my house for the inspection of my bathroom. Installation of the bath tub and tiles went 100% perfect. I canâ t thank them enough."

"Sentri Homes provided the most professional flooring service I’ve ever had. The LVP installation turned out absolutely beautiful, and I was amazed at how quickly everything was completed without sacrificing quality. The crew was fast, accurate, and extremely detail-oriented from start to finish. Everything was installed cleanly, precisely, and with real craftsmanship. The entire process was smooth, efficient, and far beyond what I expected. I would absolutely recommend Sentri Homes to anyone needing flooring installed."

"We hired Brian last year to refinish our master bathroom when we called him to have our roof and gutters done. A friend of mine had referred me to his services because of the work he had done on his roof and his brother and father’s roof (refer to my other review for his roofing work). The work he did on our bathroom really turned out great! See Photos! He asked us how long we were planning on living in our home and recommended going more high end since we plan on living in our home well hopefully forever. Rather than going with lower quality big box products, we went with higher end faucets, toilets, granite, tile...that come at a higher pricetag but should last a long time. We ended up going over-budget on our allowances but we figured we would only be redoing it once. Our granite really broke the budget but it's definitely the centerpiece of the bathroom and is really beautiful. We added a fan-tech ventilation system to our bathrooms which is a really nice unit. We have 3 vents in our main master bathroom and 1 vent in the spare bathroom. Brian recommended it and it works great! No steam build-up in either bathroom and it’s super quiet because the motor is mounted in the attic. It wasn’t cheap but I think it will help keep our bathroom clear of mildew or mold. Oh and he didn’t just vent everything into the attic. He spent extra time up on the latter cutting out an exhaust port on the side of the house. Brian really does nice work and I felt like he doesn’t take any shortcuts or skimp on materials. He wants things done correctly and in a way that his work is gonna last. I felt like any overages were reasonable, necessary, and not excessive. When he pulled the old shower out, there was considerable water damage to the subfloor that he recommended fixing. We even had him accomplish a few side jobs while he was working here. We had a wooden loft in my garage that I kept hitting my head on and he helped me raise it up. Our central vac system clogged up and he helped me clear it with my shop vac. He also mounted my tv antenna in the attic and snaked a cable wire into the basement. I had bought some tv cable and he told me to return bc he had a whole roll of it from some previous work. We would have had him redo our kitchen and laundry room but we were short of money to do everything that we wanted. One complaint was that he misquoted us for the shower door that turned out to be double the price of the quote. He could have just recommended putting a cheaper shower door on but I think he didn’t want to cheapen the job with a crappy door. I felt like it was just an honest mistake while looking for prices and probably more of a result of a misleading sale advertisement at one of the big box stores. He ended up working really hard putting in the shower door to make up for the error rather than making us pay the glass company $1000+ they wanted to install it. Everything Brian does seems to be well thought out. He doesn’t rush the project at all and works with you to really make everything custom. He spent considerable time working out the new angles on the tub/toilet area which really turned out nice! We really love the bevel that he put into the wall and the angle of the tub box. The molding on the shower piers really turned out nice. He spent some serious time on the position of the lights and mirrors over the cabinets to get them just right and even had to redo it once because my wife wasn't happy with how the spacing looked. He made sure the height of our shower was just right because I’m pretty tall and need to have my faucet up high. He’s also a big fan of lighting which my wife and I share his enthusiasm for! Our bathroom went from a very dark looking old bathroom to almost like a high end operating room! My wife loves the lighting for doing her makeup. Brian could have a second career as a painter because he does a really nice job. I wish i had spent time helping him paint to learn some of his tricks because he’s a really good painter."

Custom Home Builders questions, answered by experts

A construction-to-permanent loan is the most common type of mortgage used to finance a house teardown and rebuild. These loans include financing for construction costs and convert to a long-term mortgage once construction is complete. Check the terms of the loan closely before beginning work—there are often restrictions requiring you to use licensed contractors for all work.

It is a good idea to check in with your local city and state regulations before committing to building a shipping container home no matter where you live. This concept is pretty new across the country, and many places won’t let you build one.

The International Code Council (ICC) offers guidelines for home builders on the safe use of ISO intermodal shipping containers repurposed as building components, which can be helpful to review when planning or designing a shipping container home.

Renovating or remodeling an existing structure is usually less expensive than the cost to build a new house. That’s because you can save on the costs of new building materials, laying a foundation, framing the entire building, and installing new materials and utilities throughout the house. However, if a home is in very poor condition or is incredibly old, you could spend more on upgrades and restoration compared to building from scratch.

The term “cottage” is subjective, so there’s no rigid definition, but it generally refers to a small home with simple and purposeful architecture that embraces nature and focuses on charm over everything else. Cottages are typically 1 or 1 1/2-stories tall, usually with gabled roofs, and are built out of natural materials that help make the structure a part of the surrounding nature rather than something that stands out from it. A big part of what makes a cottage a cottage is the decor, which includes natural materials from the nearby area.

Building a new home can be more expensive than buying an existing one, depending on the housing market in your area. Many homeowners still find that building a new house is worth the investment as they can choose the exact layout they want, as well as to choose their own floors, wall coverings, appliances, and finishes. If you live close enough to the build site, you can also stop by to check on the builder’s progress, which can provide some peace of mind that the project is worth it.
