"I’m very happy I chose Fran to install my kitchen tile backsplash. He was prompt in coming to look at the job and provided a quote the very next day. Fran shared pictures and ideas to help me decide which tiles would look and work best—no pressure at all, just helpful guidance. Fran and his helper James were prompt, professional, and a pleasure to have working in my home. The backsplash came out great, and Fran left the area spotless—like he was never even there. Fran is a great guy who does excellent work. I’d gladly recommend him to anyone looking for tile installation services!"

"I hired JFJ Construction for installation of a backsplash. They responded quickly, always communicated promptly and did great work, even through my backsplash was a bit tricky. They were highly professional, put down drop cloths where they would be walking, even through the work was not done there. Brenda was great at communicating. I highly recommend them."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, even if you’re being careful, removing tile can damage your drywall to some degree. However, you can minimize the damage done to it by eliminating a majority of the grout and taking your time prying each tile off. Also, it's worth noting that you might have more drywall damages to deal with if your tile is set into the mortar.

Tile—specifically smaller, mosaic-style tiles—is the best type of flooring for building a walk-in shower base. Shower pans come with a threshold and sidewalls to contain the water, but tile can be set into the shower base. This creates a walk-in shower floor that gently slopes toward the drain to keep water from getting out and into the rest of the bathroom.

Solvents dissolve tile adhesive, but the right solvent for the job depends on what type of adhesive you are trying to remove. For instance, dispersion adhesive requires stronger removers, like bile soap or even paint stripper, but some adhesives, like cement-based products, can come off with water and soap or mortar remover.

To maintain tile and grout, clean the surfaces regularly with mild, non-abrasive cleaners and wipe up spills promptly to prevent buildup. It is also important to reseal the grout every 1-2 years to maintain its durability.

It’s possible to walk on a clay tile roof, but you run the risk of breaking or cracking the tiles if you’re not careful, so it’s best not to walk on it if you can avoid it. If you or a contractor needs roof access, be sure to distribute your weight evenly and step on the portions of tile that are also supported underneath, which depends on your tile design. Walking on any roofing material is inherently dangerous, so wear rubber-soled shoes and use safety equipment if you need to access your roof.
