"Fernando & his team did a great job on my driveway. I was getting a lot of water run off and debri in my driveway caused from living at the bottom of the hill. They addressed my concerns and redid my driveway in a way I no longer have any issues with run off. Very nice workers, left no mess at all. Very happy with their work, great pricing as well, would highly recommended."

"Wonderful. Our driveway needed to be torn up, regraded and paved. The entire crew was very professional. The job was completed when promised. They did a better job than I expected, making sure we were satisfied, explaining exactly what they were going to do ever step of the way. They cleaned up after the job was completed, making sure everything looked better than they found it. I would highly recommend EB Asphalt."

Small jobs welcome

"I cannot express enough praise and appreciation for a job well done. The front of my house now looks beautiful. After removing the old asphalt driveway and concrete walkway and stoops, pavers were installed on the driveway with a Belgian block apron as well as pavers on the walkway with a darker color border around both. Two concrete stoops and stairs were rebuilt, expanding one and topping both with blue stone on top and stone veneer on the sides. Each step of the way, from proposal to completion, Alex was helpful, pleasant, polite, knowledgeable, honest, fair with pricing and a great communicator. His crew is very skilled, hard working and punctual - they cleaned up every day. I had interviewed and received quotes from 9 other contractors, and I am happy I decided on No. 10: Alex Masonry."

Customers say: Quick response

"Jimmy completed an extensive flagstone, Belgian block, and brick patio/long, wide walkway and front brick stoop repair and restoration today (May 3rd, 2020). The results were nothing less than spectacular! Beautiful, precise stonework Jimmy! Courteous, prompt and professional, it is clear that Jimmy is a Master craftsman at his trade. Jimmy's estimate was quite reasonable and within our budget for the project. There were no surprises. Jimmy performed the very same scope of work (no shortcuts) that the other masonry contractors I interviewed agreed to perform at well below their estimates. Upon completing the work, Jimmy and his crew cleaned up the area perfectly, so there was nothing that I had to do except behold and enjoy his work. As soon as finances permit, I will be calling Jimmy back to install a Belgian block apron at the end of our driveway. We (my wife and I) consider ourselves fortunate to have found Jimmy, and highly recommend calling him for your masonry project (s). You can expect high quality work at a price that won't bust your budget!"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Cobblestone is just one of many driveway materials. Other, more economical, albeit less elaborate options include concrete, asphalt, and gravel.

If you want a material that most closely resembles cobblestone, your best option is bricks or pavers. Both cost anywhere from $10 to $50 per square foot and can be laid in all kinds of patterns. Depending on the type of paver you choose, you can also get a good bang for your buck by investing in durable natural stone.

By grading and compacting the base soil, ensuring proper drainage and stability.

When comparing installation costs, asphalt is often less expensive upfront than concrete. Asphalt prices typically range from $7 to $15 per square foot, while concrete can range from $3 to $18 per square foot. However, long-term costs should also be considered. Concrete driveways generally last longer (up to twice as long) and require less maintenance, which can make them more affordable over their lifespan. While asphalt has a lower installation cost and is easier to repair, it requires more frequent maintenance, such as sealing, which can add up over time. Therefore, while concrete is more expensive initially, its durability may offset the cost in the long run.

A solid driveway starts with the right asphalt mix, and for most homes, dense-graded hot mix asphalt (HMA) is the most recommended. It’s both durable and flexible, making it a reliable choice for residential use. A properly compacted 2-3 inch layer on a well-prepared crushed stone base will hold up for years. In areas with harsh winters or scorching summers, a slightly modified mix can help prevent cracking and rutting. No matter the climate, quality installation is just as important as the material itself, so hiring an experienced contractor ensures a smooth, long-lasting driveway built to last.

Wet cutting is usually the preferred method. It controls dust, which helps protect your lungs and makes for a cleaner working environment. Plus, the water cools the blade, preventing overheating and prolonging its life while providing smoother, more precise cuts. The downside is the mess—water and asphalt sludge can be messy to clean. Dry cutting, though convenient if water isn’t available, creates a lot of dust, which can be harmful. This also increases the risk of blade damage due to overheating. So, if you have the option, wet cutting is the better method for most asphalt jobs.
