"We cannot recommend Marc and Highland Window Company more. Marc is extremely responsive, personable, professional, proactive, knowledgeable and he has a team that is equally superb when installing new windows and siding. It’s weird to think you could enjoy working with a contractor so much, but I really appreciated all of Marc’s help. I literally emailed him dozens of times even before we decided to work with him with many questions and he always responded quickly with his suggestions. Once we confirmed we would work with him, his responsiveness and proactivity continued! Always checking in on how the jobs were going, being cognizant of our newborn when visiting, and just generally being a good human. Our home now looks brand new and we’ve received so many compliments on it. Thank you Marc and teams for your fantastic work!"

"Excellent service! Highly recommend! David was prompt and very professional. We had damage to our gutters from strong wind gusts. David sent a handy man the same day we called, they repaired the damage quickly, and it was excellent work! Highly reliable!"

"What an incredible experience. Contacted them for siding consult, Chris from sales was very knowledgeable and easy to talk with. Gave us great recommendations for the design. We signed up and wow the siding was here in less than 10 days. The installers, Led by Daniel were incredible. They were courteous, friendly, neat and they were fast! You could see pride of work as they were doing the project. They were also on time each day, were there when they said they would be. AJ our project manager was awesome as well..Communicated frequently so we always knew what to expect. We are thrilled with our new home, siding is beautiful, this team is stellar! If we could give a 100 rating we would!"

"The painting job was excellent in all ways. The estimate was detailed, exact, and by far the least expensive of all the estimates I got. The work proceeded very smoothly, was completed within the expected time, was done expertly, and has stood up through the years without a flaw. Cleanup was efficient and complete. A superior job in all ways.

When I needed a new roof, I turned to Excalbur again. The estimate was comparable to the least expensive of the estimates I received. The work went according to schedule and was done efficiently and expertly. Because of an extreme change in weather soon after the job was completed, I was concerned about one particular aspect of it -- the caulking where a lower roof joined against the siding of the house. Leo came over promptly, inspected it, and recaulked it just to be sure that there was no problem.
Cleanup after completion of the job was complete -- much better than I experienced with another roofing job I had done on another house with another company.

During the course of the roofing job, unexpected complications arose. We had differing opinions about whether or not required work was covered by the contract, but were able to resolve this matter. Some words of advice to everyone entering into a contract for such an expensive and complex job, whether with this contractor or any other contractor: be very sure to spell out in detail exactly what is covered in the job and covered by the contracted price; expect the unexpected -- e.g., that tearing off the old roof may reveal the need for unanticipated carpentry work -- and be as clear as possible what of this is covered by the contract, and if not, what the agreed upon additional cost would be (e.g., cost of material + $xx per hour, etc.)"

"Conner and Marc were extremely informative about the products for the windows that we were interested in. The follow up throughout the process has been great. They measured twice and ensured everything was done right while making excellent suggestions about style and options. Everyone has been on time throughout this process. We also worked with power 12 years ago doing our siding and had a great experience and had a big impact on us using them again."

Siding questions, answered by experts

There should be small gaps between your roof and the walls of your home, and other buildings. These small gaps let building materials shift, expand, and contract with weather and other outside forces, and they prevent moisture from wicking down walls from roofing and gutter systems. Without these strategic gaps, your home’s exterior and its finishes can sustain water damage, decay, peel, delaminate, and crack. However, there is a fine line between a smart gap and a problematic gap—all  gaps should be small, intentional, and covered or filled in with foam insulation to prevent pests from using them as access points.

The recommended PSI (pounds per square inch) for cleaning vinyl siding can vary, so it's best to consult the manufacturer's guidelines. Generally, vinyl siding can handle high pressure, from 2,500 to 3,500 PSI. For comparison, more delicate materials like wood and aluminum siding should not face more than 1,500 PSI. To safely disperse the pressure on vinyl, use a tip with a wider spray span, such as a green (25-degree) or yellow (15-degree) nozzle. For routine cleaning of light dirt, a garden hose with a spray nozzle may be sufficient. Always exercise caution to avoid using excessive pressure that could damage the siding.

You should use a siding nail gun for siding installation, but if you don’t have one you can use a framing nailer instead, if the nails are long enough to firmly attach to the clapboard siding. However, framing requires longer nails that join lumber together. In that instance, siding nails will not be enough.

Concrete log siding offers some cost savings when compared to wood logs. Real wood logs require ongoing maintenance that can total up to $750 annually, while concrete log siding doesn’t require annual maintenance. Since concrete log siding exceeds the requirements of most building codes, it can also lower insurance premiums and boost resale value.

Stucco is considered a type of cladding because it includes a built-in ventilation layer, a weatherproof membrane beneath that, and, often, a layer of insulation to improve building efficiency. The multiple layers of stucco—the scratch coat, the brown coat, and the finish coat—also create a more complex building membrane, so it’s more accurate to call it cladding. However, homeowners and contractors alike refer to stucco as siding.
