"Alex removed our existing concrete patio, installed a paver patio, and rebuilt a stone wall. He and his crew were courteous, professional, and extremely knowledgeable, paying great attention to detail. Alex was also very accommodating, meeting us at a stone yard to help pick out materials. We highly recommend Alex Masonry and would definitely hire them again."

"R&M Masonry was quick to reach out to review the work and provide a quote at a fair price. Project was completed shortly after that and covered everything we agreed to. The workers took extra precautions to keep the work area clean and be mindful of our home. Would definitely recommend them for masonry projects."

"Front of my stairs were starting to crumble and looked gross. I was having a hard time finding a permanent solution, at a reasonable price, and had curb appeal. Had a couple quotes but I’m glad I went with Design and Build Masonry LLC. Very nice people, family owned, and did an awesome job! Will be having them take care of some more projects for me."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Older rubble stone foundations and mixed materials in local homes complicate masonry work by requiring specialized assessments and specific mortar mixes. Sloped lots near the Hanging Hills create drainage challenges and lateral soil pressure. Furthermore, interior chimneys and shared walls in multi-family structures require extensive coordination. Any structural repairs must also comply with strict CT building codes and require local permits.

Helpful?

Inspect your home for mismatched mortar colors or textures, which indicate incompatible materials that damage historic brick. Look closely for cracking tuck-pointing or skim-coated joints that fail quickly under Meriden freeze-thaw conditions. Check for water stains, bulging wall sections, and cracked chimney caps. Finally, peeling paint over brick traps moisture and requires complete removal and new masonry work to restore structural integrity.

Helpful?

Watch for hairline cracks in your mortar, as Meriden experiences frequent freeze-thaw cycles that expand small gaps into major issues. Look out for white salt deposits or flaking brick faces, which signal active water damage requiring masonry work. Stair-step cracking along your foundation indicates soil movement. Address crumbling mortar and damp basement walls immediately, as spring snowmelt creates heavy pressure against your foundation.

Helpful?

Chimneys require the most frequent masonry work due to intense freeze-thaw cycles and interior moisture. Older rubble stone foundations and retaining walls also demand significant attention because of high water tables and frost heave. Additionally, front steps deteriorate rapidly from heavy road salt exposure during CT winters. Finally, inspect solid brick exterior walls and steel window lintels for rust and necessary repointing.

Helpful?

Completing masonry work acts as a crucial protective measure for your property value. Since CT requires sellers to disclose material defects, unaddressed foundation or chimney issues derail sales and force significant price reductions. Restoring historic brick exteriors dramatically boosts curb appeal in Meriden neighborhoods. Proactive repairs ensure your home passes mandatory real estate inspections and prevents buyers from demanding steep discounts.
