Small jobs welcome

"Alex responded promptly to my request for an estimate and was able to provide me with one immediately after evaluating the site and job we wanted done. I thought the price was fair and in line with the other estimates, his responsiveness was top notch and he was almost immediately available. Once we agreed on hiring him, he and his team were able to start within the same week. We had an excellent experience throughout the process and he was able to quickly and fairly address any changes to the original plans. The guys were always right on time, incredibly efficient, and left the work area very clean every day after they were done. We have spent more time the last two weeks on our back patio than we have on our deck in any given year. He gave us an estimate on a Tuesday, we hired him the following Monday, they started on Saturday, and finished on Wednesday. I wish I had more work for them to do, and would certainly recommend Alex Masonry."

"Great company to work with. Gave multiple paver and stone options to choose from priced competitively and did a great job on my retaining wall and pathway. They finished the job on time and exceeded my expectations. Will certainly go to R & M masonry for my future masonry projects."

"General Masonry is one of the most hard-working, fair & honest company that I have done business with! Anything related to masonry, stonework or patios/walls, I highly recommend Andi and his team. My retaining wall came out looking great, but it was with Andi's expertise and recommendations as to why. Thank you!"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

The success of masonry work relies entirely on resisting Southington’s severe freeze-thaw cycles. Contractors must match mortar correctly, especially using softer lime blends for historic brick homes. Setting footings below the 36-inch frost depth prevents structural failure. Proper drainage management, including weep holes and grading, directs water away from your foundation. Scheduling installations between April and October ensures proper mortar curing.

Helpful?

Completing masonry work provides immediate weather protection against heavy snow and rain. Rebuilding chimneys improves your home's heating efficiency during cold CT winters. Over the long term, correctly executed repairs resist severe freeze-thaw cycles and extend structural lifespans. Fixing foundations and retaining walls also ensures compliance with the state building code while boosting your Hartford County property value.

Helpful?

Chimneys demand the most frequent masonry work in Southington due to intense freeze-thaw cycles and heavy ice loads. Retaining walls managing hillside grades face constant pressure from soil and frost heave. Mid-century block foundations and interior basement walls require regular waterproofing to combat the high water table. Finally, exposed front steps and patios deteriorate quickly without adequate base preparation.

Helpful?

During masonry work in Southington, you face hidden expenses when contractors uncover frost heave damage or strike ledge rock during excavation. Properties near the Quinnipiac River expose subsurface drainage problems requiring immediate remediation. Older mill-era homes demand specialized lime mortar matching and safe hazardous material handling. Additionally, mandatory building permits and winter weather enclosures add strict financial requirements to your project.

Helpful?

Inspect your property every spring to determine if you need masonry work. Look for white staining on foundations and mortar joints eroded deeper than a quarter inch. Check for cracked chimney crowns, missing caps, and stair-step cracks in brickwork. Leaning retaining walls indicate severe frost heave damage requiring immediate attention. Schedule a professional inspection after major CT nor'easters or before selling your home.
