Yes, you can grind concrete by hand, but it’s typically known as sanding concrete when done with a hand grinder. For instance, raising or leveling concrete costs $3 to $25 per square foot, while resurfacing your driveway may cost $3 to $5 per square foot. Meanwhile, small cracks may only cost between $0.10 and $0.15 per linear foot and can be DIYed with synthetic crack filler.

For cracks in asphalt driveways, you can use crack filler or cold-patch asphalt mix, while concrete driveways can be repaired with a concrete patch or resurfacer. To fix the driveway cracks, apply the filler directly into the crack using a caulker and then level it with a putty knife.

You may want to hire a concrete floor contractor to check out your home’s concrete surfaces or inspect your home’s foundation for minor damages that they can fix while on site. They may be able to fix cracks in your driveway or garage floor the same day they fix your concrete steps, as well. General concrete repair experts usually won’t be able to handle larger jobs, like leveling a sunken foundation, so you’ll need to hire a structural engineer for bigger projects.
