We were in need of good plasterers. We called several companies. Bruno Massaro came out right away, and sent us an estimate to remove the popcorn from the ceilings in 3 main rooms and the back foyer, front foyer and hallway, and powder room on the 1st floor… and in addition, repair the laundry room ceiling and give them all a skim coat of plaster. When asked, he sent a contract that enumerated exactly what they would do – so there was no ambiguity. And even though they hadn’t yet received our signed contract in return, - only a verbal over-the-phone “yes, please come” – they came. (I wouldn’t recommend doing that though. We were just running out of time and they were accommodating.) The ceilings look terrific!! No more dusty popcorn falling all over the place! Although Massaro and Sons don’t normally do popcorn ceilings, he also agreed to fix the popcorn ceiling in the garage since the roof had leaked and it looked awful. At the same time, we were trying to get rid of the full-wall paneling in the family room, and Bruno said that they could do that too, replacing it with new drywall, and putting back all the molding that had to come off. Fabulous! We had just had the hardwood floors redone (wrong order of doing things), and wondered if they would survive all the ripping off of the paneling. Bruno assured us that all would be fine, and it certainly was. Kevin who was the lead on the job was great – appeared at the scheduled time each day and just kept on working. He was joined periodically by Guy and the whole job was finished in 2 weeks. That’s a lot of popcorn to remove and a lot of plastering to do (3 coats), along with a room to completely redo. The floors we were worried about? -Not even a scratch – and every night when Kevin left, everything was swept, vacuumed, and tidied up so that there was minimal dust anywhere. (by the way – he uses Pledge.) He is a craftsman in the true sense of the word, and meticulous in detail. He noticed the crown molding was not exactly tight in the den, and fixed that. When he and Guy were doing the back foyer and questioned the slope of the ceiling in one corner, they fixed it so that it is now straight. These are things that they needn’t have done, since they weren’t included in the original orders, but to have a good finish on the job, they just went ahead made it right. Kevin came each day between 7:30 and 8 like clockwork, except for the couple of days when he had to pick up supplies. Each room was sealed off with double hanging plastic so that the dust from the popcorn removal and the sanding of the finished plaster was contained within that particular area. The plastic, at the end of the job, was rolled up and taken away, the floors and other surfaces were vacuumed, and all woodwork wiped clean. During the 2 weeks, we had some electrical work done in the upstairs bathroom resulting in a new-cut hole in the ceiling…and we asked for an estimate and got an emailed contract, sent it back, and Kevin fixed that ceiling too along the way. (this cost not included in the total stated above) All the old paneling and molding were taken away – no debris left. They say they leave the place, at times, cleaner than when they got there. And that about says it all. We are so pleased with the results – both the family room redo and all the ceilings. Next, in the spring, we are doing the 2nd floor ceilings, and will have Bruno and Sons come back out to do them. They really are good and we recommend them highly. They are professional – from contract to clean-up with no worries in between. And they are all very pleasant to deal with - both office and field.
