"I had DMI build a fixed awning to go over my back porch. The gentleman that came out to give me the price for the construction was the same man who did the work. His name was Juan, a very friendly guy who surpassed my expectations. The awning he constructed was exactly what I wanted and it added beauty to the back of our home. Juan answered all of my questions and made suggestions during the construction phase of the project. He was just wonderful to work with and I would highly recommend him to anyone who wants a professional job done. The office manager Rachelle, kept me informed during the entire project. I received a weekly email detailing the work that would be accomplished each week. Juan was here on time and did the work exactly the way as stated in the emails. I was 110% satisfied with every aspect of the project. If you want an OUTSTANDING contractor and company, then you want DMI."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Framing a basement takes three to five days, on average, when completed by a professional, though it may take longer for a larger space. Keep in mind this doesn’t include the time to complete the design, obtain permits, and install the drywall on the framing. On average, fully finishing a basement takes an average of 45 days.

When hanging a door frame, it’s recommended that you use screws, not nails. Screws are more secure, easier to tighten, and easier to remove if you need to adjust the frame. On average, the cost to replace a door frame is about $400, but you can save on labor costs if you’re confident in your ability to DIY the project.

Carpenters are trained to take on a wide range of home projects. You can hire a carpenter to do framing, roofing, build custom furniture, and make significant upgrades to your home. General carpenters are usually able to handle most jobs. However, you may also choose to hire a carpenter who specializes in a specific type of carpentry.

It’s sometimes safe to replace a load-bearing wall with a beam, but you need a structural engineer to sign off on the project. You’ll also likely have to upgrade to a steel I-beam or another material that’s stronger than wood to maintain the level of support you need without the wall underneath.

Balcony construction or replacement typically requires a building permit from your local permitting authority. Safety and building integrity are the main reasons for the need to obtain a permit and the subsequent inspections. In some cases, especially cantilevered balconies, your municipality may also require the oversight and signature of a structural engineer.
