"Mike Lantz, owner of Infinity Contracting, did an excellent job of assessing the damage to my patio roof two support columns which had dropped about 1 ½ inches from the roof overhang. He concluded the only repair option is to replace the interior 4 x 4 post, exterior casing and stone base for the two columns since the posts are load bearing structural beams. The cost would be high so for now I will wait and watch for any additional damage to occur. Since I have a water drainage issue near one of the columns I asked Mike to have one of his contractors come out and replace an existing down spout."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

There are a few easy ways to locate a wall stud without a stud finder. First, try knocking on the wall with your knuckles. Most parts of the wall will sound hollow, but when you tap over a stud, it will sound more solid. Alternatively, since studs are spaced 16 or 24 inches apart, you can measure those distances from a corner of the room, which will always have a stud.

Framing a house with steel generally takes less time—around five to eight weeks—than most building materials. The steel components can also be made quickly off-site and manufactured with pre-punched holes for running piping and electrical wiring, which will lessen the prep work and extra labor during construction.

Costs depend on furniture type, size, complexity, and whether additional modifications are needed.

You can choose 5/8-inch plywood or 3/4-inch plywood—anything thinner than these sizes may not withstand the impact of debris propelled by strong winds or can be easily torn off by intruders. Remember that the durability of the wood board is crucial, particularly for safeguarding your windows during severe storms. The effectiveness of using wood boards for protecting the investment you made in your home relies on using the appropriate material and ensuring proper installation.

There are both temporary and permanent ways to enclose a carport. If you’re looking to enclose your carport for the winter, a canvas enclosure could do the trick. It won’t be as protective as a permanent structure, but it can offer some protection from elements like snow, rain, and wind. For a permanent enclosure, you can add extra walls, add a new vertical roof, or a lean-to addition on one side of the structure.
