"Was impressed with overall process. We were extremely concerned about the subfloor structure do to a decades old small leak into our garage. Turned out it was a small crack in drainpipe which crew found and repaired as part of install. Subfloor looked much better than expected, with no structural issues, we have been high and dry since. Glad to be done with mold issues from old shower pan and wall tile. Had minor issue of water running down grab bar into mounting elbow filling the dripping out, but some clear caulk and the problem is solved. Both crews, we had two rooms done, were in and out in a day painting drop cloths were laid down from front door to each bathroom and clean up was thorough."

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

Blueprints are generally available for houses built after the early 1900s. Before then, detailed building schematics like blueprints were rarely used and even more rarely saved. If you have an older house and need blueprints, you can have a new set drawn up by an architect or draftsperson.

Framing is often the most expensive phase of building a house because it’s time-consuming and requires a lot of materials. It costs between $20,000 and $50,000 on average, depending on materials and labor costs. Before construction begins, it’s possible that purchasing land is the priciest step in the process. Some plots of land sell for $3,000, while others cost upwards of $150,000.

While it’s never too early to start planning for a major home improvement project like a home addition, give yourself at least a month or two to plan and design your addition, find a contractor, and get the permits in order. For larger projects like a second-story addition that require designing with an architect, plan on three to four months of preparation.

The most common scale for residential blueprints is 1/4 of an inch equals one foot. This scale is the most popular because it’s easier for everyone involved, from professionals to homeowners, to understand the building’s actual dimensions. Also, it allows blueprints to have the necessary details without cluttering the page.

Yes, professionals will offer tailored solutions to fit architectural and personal style preferences.
