Small jobs welcome

"Eric was able to competitively quote and execute a significant improvement to our property in Larkspur by excavating a new parking area as well as installing a stunning retaining wall to mitigate erosion that would have caused the loss of mature pine trees. He also relocated all the dirt to other areas of our property to encourage proper flow of rain and snow melt away from our home. Every step of the project was executed perfectly, on time, with excellent communication and its completion not only served the purpose we needed but it has greatly improved the aesthetic and value of our property. I don't remember the last time we've worked with someone on a home project that has been this impressive."

"I've used this company to regrade the drainage slope that moves the water away from my house. They were here to correct the work that was performed by another contractor. The work more than met expectations and the cost was very competitive. On another occasion, OAKDEN ENTERPRISES corrected a sloping wall on a post and beam barn. They did a great job at a great price."

"My barns used to flood badly whenever it rained, but since Eco contractings re-grading, there is no more flooding! I am very happy with their work and would recommend them to anyone in need of grading work. Michael was professional and returned my call immediately and addressed any concerns I had about the project. The price was very reasonable for the work they did and I could not be happier."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Landscape edging is more DIYable than trenching. You can DIY your own digging projects, but proceed carefully and only with proper knowledge of the equipment and appropriate safety measures in place. Keep in mind the project's scope and estimate how long it will take you to do it on your own. While you can certainly save money by DIYing home improvement projects, you can’t exactly hide an unfinished—or worse, ruined— landscaping job from the neighbors. It’s always safer to call an excavation pro near you to get an estimate.

A joint utility trench, or joint trench, is a long, buried ditch on a property that contains two or more utility lines rather than running the lines in multiple trenches. Some utilities, like gas and electric or electric and communication lines, are better suited to joint trenching, while others, like water and sewer, are not allowed to be in the same trench.

There is no standard depth for burying a septic tank; they are typically buried anywhere from 4 inches to 4 feet underground. The final depth depends on several factors, including the depth of your main sewer line, the height of the bedrock, soil type, local regulations, and the property's landscape. If you plan to grow grass or plants over the tank, a depth of at least 4 to 6 inches is recommended. Deeper tanks can be more difficult to locate, but a septic professional can help find it for you.

To locate an underground downspout, you should start by identifying where the above ground gutter drains. Look for an entry point, such as a pipe or elbow leading into the ground. Follow the surface path for signs like depressions, landscaping disruptions, or wet areas after rain. You can use a metal detector or plumber’s snake to trace the pipe underground. For deeper pipes, a professional locator tool or camera inspection may be necessary. Visual markers or utility maps can also guide the search.

Excavation and grading are both generally necessary for designing your foundation, and leveling the ground where your foundation will go. These steps can also prepare the area by removing vegetation and anything else that could interfere with your home’s foundation.
