"We are thrilled with the work Miguel did for us -- tear out overgrown shrubs and rotten fencing, put in new fence, create a flagstone path and dry creek bed under a tree where nothing would grow, beautiful mulch everywhere. Have never hired a landscaper before and unable to get other bids, so it seemed expensive but we're not complaining. Miguel was great to work with, friendly, accommodating, with good suggestions and a can-do attitude."

"Jake and John provided demolition services for a minor subdivision in Englewood. They did an outstanding job. The job was completed on time and on budget without any surprises. I am getting ready to build a minor subdivision on the lot where they completed the demolition work. I am happy to say that they will be doing the excavation, foundations, flat work and landscaping for this project. I highly recommend them because they do a great job, have high standards and are great communicators. Thank you Jake and John! www.Kavodx.com is the real deal."

"Our experience with Larry of Wild Basin Ourdoors Landscaping and Designs was EXCELLENT. Larry is very knowledgable, skilled, hard working, reliable, and thorough. In addition, he is very patient when it comes to answering questions. We are also very grateful for the fact that he completed the job for us without going one bit over the pre-work estimate. We won't hesitate to use his services again for our next landscaping project."

"Iâ ve used Marshall half a dozen times or more over the past 8 years. First project was scraping popcorn ceilings , tetexturing and repainting. His excellent team prompted me to recommend him many times and use him for more projects. A few other projects included installation of a large sliding patio door, electrical outlet install, shower valve replacement, drywall repair and retexturing, exterior window trim replacement, etc. You get the point - he does a variety of jobs, good quality and competitive pricing. Highly recommend Marshall and his team"

Excavating questions, answered by experts

How deep your septic system needs to be into the ground depends on several factors. In extremely cold environments, the tank needs to rest below the maximum frost line, which can be up to six or eight feet deep. The standard burying depth for most systems is between a few inches and four feet below ground level. Depth can also depend on the slope of the landscaping and other property variables.

Most states do not require excavation companies to hold specific licenses, but many require at least a contractor’s license. Additionally, heavy equipment operators require a special commercial equipment license to operate machinery required for excavation. You can use Angi’s contractor licensing tool to confirm that an excavation company you’re considering hiring is fully licensed. You should also make sure that the excavation team is fully insured before allowing them to work on your property.

Excavation is priced in cubic yards, so you’ll need to find the volume of the area in order to calculate costs. Multiply the length, width, and proposed depth of your excavation site, then convert it into yards to get the volume. Multiply this figure by the price per cubic yard.

Most homeowners can measure by hand to get a rough estimate, even if it’s tedious. You may want to pull out a tape measure or use a string to help mark the area.

We recommend removing the stump, and grinding is a popular way to do it. You can also dig out small stumps or stumps that have fully decayed instead of grinding them. However, don’t try using acids or fire for killing a tree stump, which is a fire hazard and illegal in many areas.

Leaving the stump alone invites eventual problems, including attracting termites, mold, and fungi.

Some two-in-one tools and machines do both jobs, and those could be the right solution for smaller residential projects. However, the phrase “use the right tool for the job” definitely applies to digging. For the best results, get two separate tools for your trenching and landscape edging projects or call a pro to take care of everything for you.
