"Alex was really nice and knowledgeable about our broken AC. We did pay the $89 service fee for the evaluation. What caught me off guard was the quote for a new Amana HVAC Unit - 26K! I mentioned that I need to get a few other estimates before committing. In response, Alex said that most people find out that his prices are competitive. I would have preferred that Alex said, "Great idea! That's a lot of money and it's always a good idea to get a 2nd opinion"...or something like that. After consulting 2 other family-owned businesses with stellar reviews, we were quoted prices that were 10 to 12 thousand less than One Hour. The equipment was the same, if not even higher efficiency. Definitely shop around before committing."

"had such a great experience with HighPoint HVAC! The entire process was seamless and incredibly easy from start to finish. I was able to schedule an appointment right away, and the team arrived exactly on time. They were professional, friendly, and took the time to explain everything clearly. After finishing the job, they left the space spotless; you’d never know any work had been done. Their quality of service and attention to detail really stood out, and the pricing was very fair. "A-Moonlight provided timely and professional service. They were able to diagnose issues with my A/C and furnace quickly and explained the issue and their proposed solutions. Brent made me aware of my options for repair and what services were necessary and what was not. They were able to install the parts I purchased and service my furnace and A/C within a few hours. They got everything working in one trip and charged about 1/6th of what a competitor was asking. I would highly recommend A-Moonlight for any residential HVAC needs and I will be hiring them in the future should I need any other HVAC services."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

One of the first signs of mold in an air conditioner is a musty smell. You're likely to notice the smell when the unit runs, from the air coming out of the vents or the unit itself. You may also be able to see mold growing on the unit, such as near the condenser coils or by the fan. In some cases, there may be visible mold by the vents.

Your central A/C unit should be professionally serviced and inspected at least once a year to ensure it operates properly and efficiently. This is best done before the peak cooling season. A full-service inspection by a qualified pro will typically include checking safety components for issues like carbon monoxide leaks, verifying cooling components and coolant levels, and inspecting electrical parts like fuses and wiring. Regular servicing enhances efficiency, mitigates potential problems, and maintains optimal performance. Because AC systems contain hazardous refrigerant, professional handling is essential.

It depends on the specifics of your warranty. The motor is likely not covered if you’re working with a limited warranty. The same goes for other components like the compressor and evaporator coil. Some extended warranties will cover the blower and fan motor, so read the fine print before signing up. Additionally, the manufacturer may offer a warranty for the parts, including the motor, though there’s likely to be a strict time limit for this coverage.

Choosing between a ductless mini-split and central AC depends on your specific needs. Ductless mini-splits are ideal for targeted cooling, providing zoned comfort and energy efficiency. They are perfect for smaller spaces or homes lacking ductwork. In contrast, central AC offers consistent cooling throughout the entire house but requires ductwork and may be less energy-efficient for smaller spaces.

Consider factors like budget, home size, and cooling preferences to make the right choice. Combining both systems, with a ductless mini-split in specific areas, can also be a viable solution for tailored comfort and overall efficiency.

There are several common types of HVAC systems that you may have, including split systems, hybrid HVAC, duct-free systems, packaged heating and air, geothermal heating, or even portable units for heating or cooling. If you aren’t sure which type is in your home or are looking to install something different, you should consult an HVAC pro to determine which option is right for your heating and cooling needs.
