No. Your furnace does not run your air conditioner. Both units use the same system of ductwork to move conditioned air throughout your home, but you can have a furnace without having an air conditioner and vice versa. Your AC might not cool after a power outage because of a tripped circuit breaker, blown fuse, or damage to the compressor or capacitor. If you notice your AC not working after a power outage, in most cases, the breaker has tripped or the system has built-in brownout and blackout protection. Reboot the AC by turning it off at the thermostat, resetting the circuit breaker, and waiting 30 minutes to turn the AC on again. 

Freon will go in the refrigerant lines near the back of your AC unit. Look for small ports with caps on a thin copper line—the Freon goes into those ports. You are best off hiring a licensed HVAC professional who can complete the job safely and correctly.

On a summer day, expect your AC to run between 12 and 16 hours. However, this time frame depends on just how hot it is outside and the comfortable temperature you’re hoping to maintain indoors. Assuming the size of your AC is appropriate for the space you’re trying to cool, it shouldn’t be a problem for it to work this many hours.
