Large or small… We do it all! We started our handyman business because we noticed the lack of care and consistency in this line of business. We are reliable, respectful, reasonably priced, trustworthy and timely in getting the job done. *Please no sales calls, potential customers only.*

"Chad did great work completing our basement design from scratch. Several months later I still have no complaints about the quality of his work. I would definitely hire him again."

Q&A What is your typical process for working with a new customer? A free evaluation is offered to come up with the best strategy available to the customer. What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work? Color matching takes years of experience to create the original rendering. We use a proven products that work for restoration. Each type of leather is different and needs its own strategy. With over 16 years of experience leatherman has to ability to suit your needs. Do you have a standard pricing system for your service? If so, please share the details here. The process can consist of many strategies depending on numerous variables. We offer services from cleaning and conditioning to semi to full restorations. Our services are typically 20 to 50 percent of original retail cost. We do have a minimum of $275.00 How did you get started doing this type of work? It is family business that was started by my father. What types of customers have you worked with? We work with all types of customers from residential to commercial. Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take? One recent project was for the ther Antlers At Vail where we serviced 14 condos from cleaning to conditioning to full restoration. I am fond of our reputation in the business to be trusted as an industry professional. What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work? Ask for references! There franchises and newbies that unfortunately do not have the years of experience to fully understand how to restore leather. I am usually called out saying my couch is a PUMPKIN color now or it extremely stiff and is cracking. This all has to be stripped which is additional cost to move forward. What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project? 1. Is it worth it to restore? What was the original value? 2. Do i like the style? 3. I always suggest go shopping with my estimate and see if you can

"Michael and son arrived early, performed their work in a clean, orderly, and quiet fashion fashion. Protected nearby furniture, walls and flooring. Left a spectacular result, chairs that looked like new. Removed sun fading, scratches, and discoloration with their superb process. Couldn't be happier. The only reason I rated price as good was regardless of the result, $800 for two chairs is a superb value not necessarily an excellent price."

The Finishing Touch Woodworking is a Vietnam veteran-owned small business, with no subcontractors or franchises. You will receive personal attention from Terry and the very best in quality and workmanship. Terry is a journeyman woodworker with 40 years’ experience and now specializes in furniture and cabinet repair and refinishing. He has a reputation for very high quality and customer satisfaction and is known for his ability to build any type of replacement door and to match its color to the original factory finish. In addition, Terry has taught woodworking classes for six years with more than 10,000 students in attendance. If your cabinets are damaged or yellowed with age, or if the finish is soft and sticky and washing off, we can remove the yellow and tint to original color with the finest catalyzed lacquer. We can also repair or replace a broken or missing door or drawer, or insert glass panels. Refinishing your existing cabinetry is much less expensive than new cabinets or even refacing and will make them look new again. The new finish will be comparable to the original factory finish. For as little as $800 for a small kitchen (see pricing), you can have doors cleaned, dents and scratches repaired, and color replaced where missing. Then a high quality catalyzed lacquer is sprayed, not brushed on, as other companies do. If your cabinets are faded or yellowed with age, we can tint them a warm brown color (or any color you choose) to match existing furniture. The tinting will still allow the wood grain to show through. If you think your doors are beyond repair, you will be surprised at what we can do. But if you want new doors, we can build them in any style, stain them to match your cabinets and install. ESTIMATING PRICES - We provide this section because we know most people want to get an idea of what a project will cost before calling. Many times getting a new look only requires repairing and spraying the doors and drawers because face frames and cabinet sides don’t receive as much wear, and with touch up, may look just fine. Average base price is $45 per opening (doors and drawers only). If your cabinets need tinting due to fading, yellowing or you just want to change the color, add $10 to the price per opening. This is the price for spraying doors and drawers only. Obviously, if you want to change the color, the cabinet face frames and sides also have to be sprayed to match, and the price will increase accordingly. If your doors and drawers are beyond repair or you just wish to change the style, new ones can be made and stained to match existing cabinetry, utilizing your old cabinets and face frames. If the customer will remove and reinstall the doors and drawers, they can save $4.00 per opening. Of course, we will provide support and hints for you to do this as easily as possible. Call for an estimate or to schedule an appointment to view samples of doors and colors. I can make a sample of your desired color on one of your doors for approval. (Color can be removed.) ODOR - Doors and drawers are removed and sprayed in our shop, but the cabinets themselves must be done in the home. The high quality lacquer used does have an odor so entrances into the kitchen are tarped. Additionally, a fan is placed in the kitchen window or door to remove the lacquer odor so you will not smell anything in the adjacent rooms. OTHER PROCESSES AND COMPETITORS - Companies who advertise they will complete the entire process in your home and leave no odor can only do so by brushing on an odorless finish of either a water-based lacquer or a water-based polyurethane. These are poor finishes for cabinets because 1) water-based finishes are not as durable as catalyzed lacquer, and 2) they have to be brushed on in your home. Brushed on finishes do not have the high quality look and absolute smooth surface of a sprayed on lacquer, which does have an odo...

Furniture Refinishing questions, answered by experts

Yes, vinegar can break down the adhesive bond, effectively dissolving the glue from wood. It will be much easier to wipe away. Vinegar’s acidity, which helps to make it an effective all-purpose cleaner, can also aid in removing adhesive with less chance of damaging the wood and finish than more aggressive solvents.

The cost to refinish wood furniture ranges widely, depending on the size and type of furniture. Here’s what you can expect to pay to refinish the following wood furniture items:

  • Table: $150–$700

  • Dining chair: $100–$400

  • Rocking chair: $200–$500

  • Bar stool: $100–$250

  • China cabinet or armoire: $500–$3,500

  • Dining set: $1,000–$3,000

  • Coffee table: $150–$800

  • Dresser: $300–$2,000

  • Bed: $350–$2,000

  • Pool table: $300–$600

  • Kitchen cabinets: $1,800–$5,000

When browsing the hardware store, you may wonder about wood putty versus wood filler. Wood putty is made with plastic adhesive, whereas wood filler is made from sawdust or wood products.

The main difference is that people use wood filler to fix the interior portions of wood. Wood putty contains chemicals that could damage the inside of wood, so it's best for exterior sections. If the crack or hole goes into the middle of the lumber, it's the right product for the job.

Not always—heavily worn or broken furniture often isn’t worth repairing or refinishing (if it’s even possible). While some damage can be repaired and some of the visual appeal restored, major flaws, such as structural issues, can’t be fixed as easily. If you still want a cost-saving furniture refinishing project rather than purchasing all new, consider shopping for similar secondhand pieces at thrift stores, garage sales, and estate sales.

Applying a topcoat sealer is not required, but it will keep the stain from fading over time. This is particularly important if the stain imparts a color or varnish. If you’re staining exterior wood, you should apply a sealant or finish to prevent weather-related issues down the line. Also, stained wood that lacks a seal won’t look as clean and fresh. A clear topcoat will give it the professional result you want.
