About us

Q&A What is your typical process for working with a new customer? A free evaluation is offered to come up with the best strategy available to the customer. What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work? Color matching takes years of experience to create the original rendering. We use a proven products that work for restoration. Each type of leather is different and needs its own strategy. With over 16 years of experience leatherman has to ability to suit your needs. Do you have a standard pricing system for your service? If so, please share the details here. The process can consist of many strategies depending on numerous variables. We offer services from cleaning and conditioning to semi to full restorations. Our services are typically 20 to 50 percent of original retail cost. We do have a minimum of $275.00 How did you get started doing this type of work? It is family business that was started by my father. What types of customers have you worked with? We work with all types of customers from residential to commercial. Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take? One recent project was for the ther Antlers At Vail where we serviced 14 condos from cleaning to conditioning to full restoration. I am fond of our reputation in the business to be trusted as an industry professional. What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work? Ask for references! There franchises and newbies that unfortunately do not have the years of experience to fully understand how to restore leather. I am usually called out saying my couch is a PUMPKIN color now or it extremely stiff and is cracking. This all has to be stripped which is additional cost to move forward. What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project? 1. Is it worth it to restore? What was the original value? 2. Do i like the style? 3. I always suggest go shopping with my estimate and see if you can

Michael and son arrived early, performed their work in a clean, orderly, and quiet fashion fashion. Protected nearby furniture, walls and flooring. Left a spectacular result, chairs that looked like new. Removed sun fading, scratches, and discoloration with their superb process. Couldn't be happier. The only reason I rated price as good was regardless of the result, $800 for two chairs is a superb value not necessarily an excellent price.

Dennis took the cushions and started the job. A couple days in he called my husband and pretty much was yelling at him saying that this was the worse he has seen in 15 years and it's a much harder job then he thought. (basically making us feel bad for using our furniture for 19 years...) The results were awful, it was much darker, which would have been fine if the whole piece was the same color and the quality of the work better (i.e. if it looked "better then new" to quote Dennis), however parts were very dark and other less worn parts were almost the same color as the original. Also, on the top cushions there were holes made near the piping were he had sanded down the leather, obviously to much, and then applied some sort of repair material that was completely "goopy" and obvious. It looked horrible. I expressed my displeasure. He said to wait a couple weeks and see how it wore and he would come back and do some more work. The seat cushions which were the most worn, showed the wear right thru again. He came back and applied some more treatment only to have the same results a few days later. He came back a third time and was convinced he had an idea that would work better. At that point I was so over it as it had dragged on for months "between" other jobs he had. He thought for sure he could make it better and also offered to refund us half of what we paid. I said if he thought his new idea would make a difference I'd say give it another try but asked that if I still was still unhappy would he honor his offer of refunding half of what we paid. He said he would, absolutely. Well, as you probably can guess the results were less then acceptable, the cushions now looked painted and there was no sign of the natural look of leather. I expressed my frustration that he took on job that should never have happened and that now we were out the money and still needed new furniture. Bottom line, although his intentions may have been good, the results, and his word were not, as he did not honor his word and reimburse us half of what we were charged. He gave me a check for $500.00, you do the math, that's less then a quarter of what we paid and won't get us new furniture but $2750 could have. I wasn't feeling well the last day he was out so I didn't even look at the check until the following day when I went to deposit it. When I saw the amount, I called him and asked him why, and he said I agreed to it, you guessed it, I had not...... I was so frustrated and expressed how unhappy and disappointed I was with the whole process and him and he had nothing to say, I mean nothing, silence on the end of the phone, so I hung up. So, the moral of this story is, buyer beware, if it seems to good to be true, it is! Dennis over promised, under delivered, and does not honor his word. I would never ever recommend this service.

My experience with this company was excellent! I was thrilled with the work they did on my furniture and would highly recommend their service to others. The leather has taken on a and quot;newand quot; look and feel and is a joy to see. The entire process was a quick turnaround, no mess to deal with, reasonably priced, and they were extremely pleasant to work with! Thank you!

Very well.  Dennis was very prompt and professional. Provided a written quote.  Picked up cushions and took them back to shop and then his son came back a few days later and finished doing everything else.  Furniture looks great, almost new.

He destroyed my furniture. I would not trust him or recommend him to anyone. He also destroyed my suede kitchen chairs by staining them with a cleaner.

My dog scratched, without puncturing through the leather,  large areas of my red leather chair and ottoman with his claws.  The Leatherman attempted to repair these, but, in my opinion, was unsuccessful.  My matte-finished, cherry red leather is now fire-engine red, and VERY shiny. It is not too strong a word to say that I hate it.  It does not match the rest of the chair and ottoman.  And, only part of the scratches were covered by his repair product.  I guess it was worth a try, for only $175 (the chair and ottoman were $2,700,) but, I am very disappointed in the results.

"When a potential customer wants to restore only one cushion, we caution them several times that we can not make the one cushion match the other cushions or arms and frame that are worn and faded. Our work will stand out because it now looks new and the original color. We also ask him if he wanted the original color or more toward the faded color. Mr (Removed Member Name) was the person who contacted me and brought the ottoman and cushion to me and agreed to the above comment and cautions.and agreed to the original color. What we have here is a case where the husband (Removed Member Name), did not communicate to his wife (Removed Member Name) the whole story. All that being said in my defense, this also demonstrates that when a person only wants to spend $175 it can over rides good sense and pure logic especially when dealing with worn and faded leather. He should have involved his wife and communicated to her the consequences of trying to take a short cut with price being the main basis for their reasoning and final decision. All they had to do once they got home and realize THEIR BAD DECISION was simply call me and paid the original full price and like all my customers they would have been happy. We have never been to the customer's house. He brought it to me which makes my wonder how he can grade the whole out come as a whole job since I ONLY SAW what (Removed Member Name) brought to me,"

First note that the company description can be mis-leading if you don't read all the small print. Ty Whitehurst is the Denver Colorado company founder's daughter and she represents the company and does the work in Southern California, as well as other parts of the country if a customer do desires. Ty and her able sidekick, Brooklyn, do the work in your home-----no four week trip to some factory. The work ethic is exceptional. The end result is astonishing. Other leather restoration/repair folks will tell you that Nubuck/Chap leather cannot be restored------don't believe it----obviously they do not have Ty's knowledge and expertise!! I could not be more pleased !!!!! ?? Recommend Ty and Brooklyn to the highest degree.

We had bought a semi custom built leather couch, and a  very large  overstuffed chair with ottoman 18 years ago.  The frames of hard maple were as good as the day we bought them but the leather was well worn, cracked and faded.  Started to look  around at replacements and discovered that a replacement built to the same quality would be an easy 10K.  Wife found Leatherman listed on  Angie's List so we  gave them a  call.  Dennis arrived  on schedule and told us he would get the leather looking better then new and went over what he would do and why.  He was very  professional and we could tell he took great pride  in his work. Spent about 40 minutes talking to us with no sales hard sell.  When time to  talk  about pricing he mentioned if he could take all the cushions to his shop  to work on and do the frames in house he could give us a better deal.  While the price wasn't cheap as a matter of fact I could have bought a new cheaply made sofa and chair for what he charged it would not have  been near the quality of what we had and  as I stated above I didn't have 10K to invest in high quality replacements.  Dennis took the cushions said it would take about a  week  and sure  enough 6 days later he was back to finish the frames.  Result everything looks brand new, took a couple of days to get the soft leather feel  back  but we are more then pleased  and highly recommend   Leatherman.  Looking forward to keeping the sofa and chair for another 15 years so well worth the investment.   If I can figure how to provide before/after pictures I will.

We received an estimate to clean our leather sofa and loveseat.  We were presented with a 'hard sell' on a special product that was  patented and extremely durable, soft, and beautiful.  We decided to have the work done and he came to the house & worked for 6 hours with my husband helping to sand down the leather and remove the dirt & finish.  He came back the next day to complete the project.  After choosing the color, he applied the patented conditioner to all areas of the sofa & loveseat.  When this was complete, the sofa & loveseat were noisy.  I mean, so noisy, that you couldn't sit on them & hear the tv if you moved. Worse than any saddle or leather product I've ever seen.
This was not acceptable and the leatherman came back time after time with new products to try & stop the leather from squeaking.  He came back at least 5 times - and was as upset with what had happened as we were.  We thought we were going to have to purchase a new sofa & loveseat if this could not be fixed because we could not live with it this was.
To his credit, he stayed with us and took care of the problem - my sofa & loveseat now do NOT squeak and they are beautiful.  It was a long process to get here - but I love them today.

Dennis did a wonderful job of repairing a 2 X 2" "L" shaped tear on my leather jacket sleeve.  I thought the coat was ruined, he did an excellent repair, that after the protective coating wears off some no one will notice.  for $95.00 he not only cleaned my coat, repaired the sleeve but added a protective coating that he made to specifically help with Colorado climate changes.  The coat looks and feels like new again.  I am going to have him give me an estimate on reconditioning an old leather recliner.  I would recommend Leatherman to anyone who needs quality repair done at a reasonable price.  Thanks Dennis.

Leather on our couch was drying out and cracking the rest was just dirty after many years of non treatment and a summer of remodeling. I wasn't there for the actual work being done but my mother was. she said he spent 1 hr to do everything. He came back after I arrived home so that I could pay him and to go over the instructions of how to apply the conditioner in the future, which he left a bottle of.  The couch was no longer looking dried out and the rest of the furniture had a sheen to it. I pointed out a mark on the love seat and he told me how to get rid of by just sanding it and applying the conditioner. Which was fine but for $600 I felt that it should of been taken care of in the initial job. Once my wife got home she noticed even more marks on our over-sized chair that I had missed. He was a very pleasant man to deal with but was a little  perplexed by his response to the marks still on the furniture.  I was hesitant to go with a big chain name  like Stanley Steamer or Quoit and really had no gauge as to what price to pay. For the money paid and time spent I should not have to be doing ANY work on the furniture.

"The Customer ask for a bid to CLEAN AND CONDITION a COUCH, LOVESEAT AND CHAIR. I took the time to explain the differences between CLEANING AND CONDITIONING VRS A FULL RESTORATION. He agreed that spending $1,750. where we sand, vacuum, clean, condition, dye and apply "superleatherman" protection was not in his buget but only wanted a price to clean and condition.I also agreed because he caught it sooner rather than later he would be happy not going into the full restoration that would include sanding, cleaning, conditioning, dyeing and "superleatherman". He even pointed out that " I am not looking to spend the difference for a few spots. As a favor and not charging extra for dyeing the lower cushions we went the extra effort to minimize the spots. We even pointed it out to him how little the spots showed. He asked if we could make them go away completely. We reviewed with him his original options and agreed with him that to spend the difference to gain a small percentage was not cost effective. My associate and I were on site for 1.5 hrs or 3 man hrs. The Customer agreed that we brought back to life a couch, love seat and chair. The Customer's wife was never part of any conversations. I was not part of any of what conversations that the Customer had with his wife. I am convinced that had we done business with his wife all would have gone well. The Customer works for a delivery service and would appreciate that 1 hr delivery costs more than 3 day delivery likewise there is a huge difference between spending $600 and $1,750. P.S. All stains in leather require more than cleaning and conditioning."

My husband's big old leather chair was in really bad shape.  I thought I'd at least explore the possibility of having it repaired before junking it.  Dennis arrived promptly, but took his time adding new padding, patched the big rip, and restored the finish of the leather.  The repair is noticeable to a certain degree, but considering how badly ripped and worn it  was, I think he did a great job. He basically took a piece of junk and turned it into a nice piece of furniture again.  It wasn't cheap, but we would have had to pay much more to replace it with a chair of comparable quality.  Glad we didn't have to get rid of an old friend.  Dennis was very honest about the price before beginning the job and explained everything as he was doing it.

Dennis was very responsive and came to give the estimate quickly. He said that the restoration procedure would take 2 days but in fact he was here for 8 hours on the first day and 2 hours on the second..  He is very detailed oriented and meticulous although I felt he hurried the work on the sofa the second day. The furniture does look much better and Dennis is willing to return if there is a problem.

"The member and I while working with him for two days became close friends. I volunteered to return at no charge to help him with a project that had nothing to do with leather restoration, He told me how happy they were with my work and apologized to me for his wife's comment. They both assured me that they would recomend me to friends. By the way I spent 1.5 hrs driving each way to his house twice and 3.5 hrs helping him with the volunteer project."

The color match (to a paint chip from the hardware store) was perfect, the leather was pebbled and low sheen as requested and the seats came out looking just as hoped.
The seats were picked up and then deliverd buck to us within a week, as promised.

Leatherman is a wonderful company who sent just the right worker to the house to assess the situation.  He gave us a good estimate, and the work was done to our satisfaction.  This may sound like no big deal, but the recliner they fixed was made by a company no longer serviced in the Denver area, and it could have gone SO wrong, so easily.  But it didn't!

I am VERY happy to have my leather jacket back, and the work was first-rate. Leatherman knows what he's doing. Not only did he breathe another ten years of life into the jacket, he was also conscientious about its appearance. Before he started work on it, he discussed with me whether I wanted it to look new or look broken in. He succeeded in restoring it to exactly the condition I wanted: it looks a lot better, but it still looks broken in. Because of his work schedule, he said it would take about 6 weeks to get it ready, and he was true to his word; I got it back just in time for the turn in the weather. I would use Leatherman for leather repair of any kind.

Update: I've been wearing the jacket for another two years and it still looks fine. I may not get another 10 years out of it, but I expect at least another 5.

The repair was not exactly what I had in mind. I assumed the repairing my leather sofas meant that he was going to stitch the seams back together. When he started working I realized that he was adding a silicone type product to my sofa to hold togehter the areas that had come apart, and then he matched the colors with paint and painted the repaired areas to match the color of the sofas. Most of the repair needed to be done on the back part of the sofas, so the result is okay...had it been on the area that was in plain view all the time, I would have been very disappointed.

"As a new member of Angie's List I was not aware of reports and responses. I would like to thank the memberl for her "B" report. I am confused about her giving me a B when she agrees that I was even early. Her comment on paid too much is later in her report contradictory to "on time and inexpensive". However the most confusing part of her report was that I did not explain to her ahead of time what we were going to do. Over the phone I went into great detail but once I got to the home she is correct that I did not explain things to her. She totally forgot her appointment even though it was first 8am in the morning. Because she forgot about us coming she in her scrambling to get somewhere turned it all over to her husband. And YES it was to him that I went over everything very slowly and got his go ahead. The memberdid get home before we finished and she was the one who handed me the check and agreed that all was well. Lastly, I remember her or her husband asking if we were paint on her leather. WE DO NOT USE PAINT ON LEATHER. We made it clear that the dye we use is made for leather. I hope that she re-reads her report and clears up the contradictory comments. Also since we offer a life-time satisfaction policy we would like to know if all is still well.. Dennis"

Once Mr. Lowrie was given the go ahead he drove to our home, arrived promptly and was equipped with a mobile repair service. He was able to do the repairs in our home or in his truck(my preference) or to take the furniture to his shop and deliver later. He started the sofa at approximately 8:30 am and was finished with all three pieces by 12:00. He draped all the surrounding area and conditioned each and every piece after repair and left additional cleaner and conditioner for future use. He provided details on caring for the furniture and future service needs. My husband and I are so impressed with his skill and knowledge that we believe he deserves to be on Angie's List.
