Small jobs welcome

"I am so happy to say I have found a plumber I can trust to do good work for a fair price and who is responsive. They were very responsive to scheduling, arrived promptly, and were very friendly. They were very professional in their appearance and conduct. They got the job done quickly and explained everything in detail. I highly recommend them for anything leaks to pipes to plumbing! They are now my go to plumber!"

"Gary, the master plumber who came to our home and gave us an estimate and did the repair work was personable, friendly, professional, and very thorough. He was the main reason we went with Rooter Guy. They were the most expensive of the quotes we received ( we had 4 estimates). The solutions Gary provided were the least intrusive to our plumbing disaster. The work they completed is wonderful and we feel very confident the repair will last for a very long time! The day of the repair job they communicated well and cleaned up everything perfectly. I could not be happier with the work - just wished the job was a little less pricey. We have kept Gary's card and will call again for major plumbing jobs in the future."

"I hired Michael To Repair a few plumbing items at my shop in the Washington Park area. He was available the day I called and was on time to his appointment. The price he quoted was fair compared to the other quotes I was given by previous plumbers I called out . I hired him the same day and he was finished with in what I considered a reasonable amount of time for what he did. I had an issue with my back flow device that another plumber wasn't able to fix and he fixed it easily. I ended up paying exactly what he originally quoted me so that was very refreshing. I would definitely recommend this plumbing business ."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Pot fillers are often outfitted with cold water only. When you need water for boiling, always choose cold water because hot water may contain more dissolved minerals from the pipe, offsetting the flavor of the food. In kitchens where the filler is used often, it may make sense to route hot water too, but this is rare, and even professional kitchens seldom have this option installed.

If the toilet is overflowing but there’s no clog, that’s a sign that the issue is deeper in the system, and plunging may not help. A blockage in your home’s plumbing, the plumbing vent, or even city sewer lines can cause toilets to overflow. The issue could also be the toilet itself if the filler float isn’t set to the correct height or if parts are damaged or worn out.

Many plumbers include removing and disposing of the old toilet as part of their service package. However, it’s best to ask before signing a contract, as removal isn’t guaranteed. If the plumber doesn’t take the old toilet, you have several options, including donation, recycling, junk removal, and bulk waste services..

Liquid drain cleaners are harsh chemicals that can erode your pipes. To treat a slow drain or for preventative maintenance, pour hot water down the drain to break up gunk and help move it along. Make sure the water isn’t boiling hot (keep it under 140 degrees Fahrenheit) if you have plastic pipes. However, you’ll need to pull the clog out for bigger backups.

No—you should always shut off the power and the water supply to the tank. Shutting off the water ensures that your water heater won’t continuously refill while you are trying to drain it, which would likely cause a big mess! Make sure to allow the hot water to cool completely before continuing the process of draining the heater.
