"I left a message for Paul on Tuesday afternoon. He called me back in a very timely manner that same afternoon. I advised Paul that I wanted Risers attached to my septic tank. The tank was just emptied that day and I had not backfilled it yet, hoping the riser attachment could be done very soon. Paul was very professional. Paul indicated he would put together an estimate and try to get my job done within a couple days. Paul called me back the next morning, gave me the estimate and indicated he would have someone out to my house that same morning. His man arrived in less than an hour, did an excellent job attaching two 12 inch risers and lids. He was finished in about 40 minutes. I am extremely pleased with Hi River Construction. The company has excellent response time, outstanding customer service and gets the job done right."

"Great people and honest. I appreciate this all the more lately after having to deal with two separate plumbing companies who were not nearly as honest. They mounted a toilet, roughed in two drains and some other work for $306. I was quoted by another company that this job would cost almost $2000.   Honest people need to be rewarded and it is hard to find them these days. Thank you! Thanks again for helping me out:)"

"Plumber arrived on time. He repaired the leaking pipes and replaced the toilet tank flapper and valve. The toilet flapper replacement alone didn't completely correct the problem. So the plumber replaced the valve apparatus. He made sure the leaks were fixed by rechecking them just before leaving. Excellent work! Would hire again!"

"The technician emptied the freezer, which was in the basement, to work on the part that needed repair. Then he neglected to put anything back into the freezer, including a turkey I had bought for Christmas and a rack of ribs. Two days after he left, I went out of town for two weeks. The turkey actually exploded and spewed its liquid all over everything, which had to be discarded. I let AHS know and they couldn't even bother to call me or follow up on this. I'm considering not renewing my contract with them because of the quality (or lack thereof) of many of the providers they send."

"Iâ m a mom with five kiddos so Iâ m late to doing this review but I had A-Plumber come out (Matt) late last summer to my home. I called the morning of in a panic because I had TWO non working toilets. Even though the owner was booked, he came out of his way at 5pm and not only fixed but replaced both toilets that night. Not charging me for after hours. Not only was Matt respectful, he was prompt, cleaned up his mess, hardworking and very knowledgeable. I will use this company for all my needs. Highly recommend."

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

The easiest thing you can do to prolong the life of your septic system is to adopt septic-safe practices. This includes not flushing non-biodegradable items, chemicals, or excessive grease down drains and scheduling regular septic tank pumping to prevent buildup. It’s also important to fix plumbing leaks promptly and to practice water conservation to avoid overloading the system. To maintain your drain field, avoid heavy vehicle traffic and plant shallow-rooted vegetation in the area. Most importantly, invest in routine inspections and maintenance to detect and address issues early.

Yes, it is generally okay to oversize a well pressure tank, and it will not harm your well system. The primary advantage is that a larger tank reduces frequent pump cycling, leading to longer, slower cycles with fewer startups. This can result in less wear and tear, potentially increasing the lifespan of the pump and conserving energy. However, there are drawbacks to consider. Oversized tanks have a higher upfront cost and require more physical space. While not necessarily a bad thing, opting for a tank that is appropriately sized for your well is often the most efficient choice in terms of cost and space.

While not strictly necessary for your septic system to operate, septic tank risers are a highly beneficial and wise choice for homeowners. They provide easy access to your tank, which makes regular maintenance, inspections, and addressing issues significantly easier and less labor-intensive. By eliminating the need for repeated excavation to locate the tank, risers can save you money, labor, and energy in the long run. This easy access allows you to proactively manage your septic system, addressing potential problems before they become costly and ensuring the system's longevity. Additionally, some local regulations may require risers, and installing them can help you avoid potential fines or penalties.

Yes. A metal detector is one of the quickest and easiest ways to find your septic tank. However, metal detectors can be too expensive (costing upward of $300 in some cases), and not everyone has a metal detector just lying around. If that’s the case for you, you can also take a long metal rod and poke it into the ground at regular intervals until you hit something—likely your septic tank lid.

Baking soda does very little to nothing for a septic tank, but it can help unclog a drain or clean out a garbage disposal. Rotten tomatoes and yeast are the best ways to increase the bacteria in your septic tank naturally. You can add these to your system once every three months.
