In the southern and southwestern United States, you cannot buy or install older air conditioners with lower SEER ratings. An AC compressor is one of the most expensive parts to replace on an AC unit if it breaks. You’ll pay up to $2,300 if you need a new one. If your AC is blowing warm air, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of air coming out of the ducts at all, or the unit cycles on and off a lot, you may have a broken compressor.
